Much like Amos, Chief Growley is a grumpy character who has a heart of gold.

The Fox and the Hound may be a charming film filled with friendship, but there was a lot of conflict between people working on the film as younger animators clashed with the old guard.

Chief was originally going to die in the story, as he did in the book the movie was based on.

One of the directors changed it to him being injured instead, and many animators argued about it as they felt it lessened the impact of the character.

As a bloodhound, Copper is very skilled at tracking, much to the detriment of his friend Tod, once they become enemies.

There was another conflict between the younger and older animators working on the film when when of Disney’s original animators wanted to put in a comedic song sequence in the middle of the film.

He was ordered to leave it out as it disrupted the flow of the film, and it was one of the final straws that led to him relinquishing control to the younger animators.
