When developing the film, one of the producers was worried that Gru was a bit too unlikable and asked the directors to make him a bit of a lighter character.
He was voiced by veteran American comedic actor Steve Carell.

Every supervillain not only needs an evil scientist but also a nemesis! The nemesis of Gru is Vector, who manages to pull off an impressive heist with the pyramids of Giza.
He was voiced by actor Jason Segel, who is probably most well known for his role of Marshall in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
