Surprise Dad or Grandpa with this adorable rocket ship craft this year for a Father’s Day gift. This easy Father’s Day craft idea is super simple for toddlers, preschoolers and kids of all ages to make.
Inside the rocket ship is a photo of the child to add personalization and to make it a keepsake to treasure forever. The moon on the craft reads “I love you to the moon and back” which will make dad and grandpa’s hearts melt.
Our simple template available in our shop makes the craft especially easy for toddlers and preschoolers to create. Print out the pages of the template on different colors of paper, cut out the pieces and assemble the craft together. Easy, peasy and done!

Supplies needed for Rocket Ship Craft:
- Rocket Ship Father’s Day Craft Template <—– Purchase in our shop
- black cardstock
- gray cardstock
- red cardstock
- yellow cardstock
- orange cardstock
- child of photo (we used a 4″ x 6″ photo with the child’s face and bust filling about one-half of the the photo frame)
- 3-inch circle punch
- star stickers (optional -You can also use white crayons)
- scissors
- glue stick
Instructions for making this Father’s Day Craft:
1. Print out craft templates
Purchase and download the rocket ship Father’s Day craft idea template. Print out the rocket ship Father’s Day craft template on colored cardstock or construction paper. At the top of each page of the template you will find notes in the upper right corner of what color to use for printing each page.
For reference, print the rocket page of the template on gray paper. Then print the rocket wings page on red paper. Next print the rocket flame page on orange cardstock. Finally, print the moon page of the template that has the message of your choice on yellow paper.
2. Cut out template pieces
Cut out each of the pieces of the Father’s Day template.
3. Glue rocket ship together
Use a glue stick to glue the rocket ship together. Glue the red wings onto the rocket ship. Then glue the rocket flame at the bottom of the rocket ship.
4. Glue moon and rocket on black cardstock
Glue the yellow moon in a corner on your black sheet of cardstock. Add glue on the back of the rocket ship and glue it diagonally on your black cardstock.
5. Cut out a circle photo of the child
Use a 3-inch circle punch to cut out a circle photo of the child. If you don’t have a circle punch, you can print out the rocket ship page of the template on a piece of white paper, cut out the circle inside the rocket ship and use it as a template for cutting out each photo.
6. Glue child’s photo on the rocket ship
Glue the child’s photo on the rocket ship inside the dashed circle lines shown on the template.
7. Add star stickers(optional)
Peel off star stickers and place them around the rocket ship on your black cardstock. As an alternative, children can draw stars around their paper with a white crayon or white colored pencil.
To add an extra personal touch to your craft, children can write a personal message to the recipient of the craft on white or lined paper and glue it on the back of their craft.
