There are many different dog breeds to choose from when considering which kind you want to adopt.
Some dogs are known to be tough watchdogs whilst others are known to be cute, cuddly companions.
The Dobermann would fall under that first category, as they have a reputation for being tenacious watchdogs.
While they can be quite vicious when threatened, they are also very intelligent and loyal companions.

Our step-by-step guide on how to draw a Dobermann will show you everything you need to create a wonderful picture of this beautiful dog.
How to Draw A Dobermann – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
The Dobermann has a rather unique and distinctive look, and that can make learning how to draw a Dobermann a bit challenging!
In this guide, we will break it down into smaller parts that will make the trickier aspects much easier for you.
Unlike many dogs, Dobermanns have very short, silky fur. For that reason, we will be using smooth lines for all of the outlines for this Dobermann.
For this first step, we will be drawing the head and face of this Dobermann.
Start by drawing the large, somewhat triangular shape of the nose, and then draw the mouth with tongue hanging out beneath it.
The eyes will be rather small with tiny rounded shapes above them, and then you can finish off with the large pointy ears above the head.
Finish off with the start of the chest, and then we can proceed to step 2.
Step 2 – Now, draw the front legs of the Dobermann
In this second step of your Dobermann drawing, we will be adding the front legs of the dog. These legs will be long, thin and lean, and they will extend from just below where the chest ended.
The paws of the front legs will go at the bottoms, and they will be drawn using some small, rounded lines.
Finish off with some curved lines for the muscle definition above the legs, and then it’s on to step 3!
Step 3 – Draw the back of the Dobermann
Moving on with this guide on how to draw a Dobermann, we will now be drawing the back of the dog.
This should be an easy part to add, as all you need is to add a rounded line coming down from the base of the neck and curling over.
The tail on this particular Dobermann looks to be docked, and you can draw it as a small rounded shape at the back of the dog.
Finally for this step, you can add another inwardly curving line for the belly of the Dobermann before we move on to step 4 of this guide.
Step 4 – Next, draw the first back leg of this Dobermann
Now we shall start adding the first of the back legs for this Dobermann drawing. This first back leg will go on the right-hand side.
It will look fairly similar to the first leg that you drew, but it will be a bit more bent and rounded. Then, add a small dot at the end of each toe for the toenails of this Dobermann.
There will be an empty space at the base of this leg, but we will fill that space when we add the second back leg and any final details in the next step of the guide!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your Dobermann drawing
This is the second to last step of this guide on how to draw a Dobermann, and before we color this dog in the next step we first have some final details to add.
First, we will be drawing the second back leg on the left. This one will be very similarly shaped to the first back leg that you drew.
Once the outline is all complete, we will be adding some detailing throughout the Dobermann.
You can draw some lines across the midpoints of the legs to begin, and then draw some smaller rounded shapes onto the chest.
Next, draw some small details inside of the ears and eyes, and then you’re ready for the final step!
Before that, you could also add details such as a collar around the neck or a fun background to really finish it off.
Step 6 – Finish off your Dobermann drawing with color
In this final step of your Dobermann drawing, we will be finishing off by coloring your creation.
One of the defining characteristics of this dog is its dark color scheme, and this is what we went for in our example image.
The color scheme for the dog has most of its body in rich, dark black, with other elements such as the bottom of the legs and the spots on the chest in a lighter brown.
If you would like a more realistic look for your own Dobermann drawing, then you can use our reference image as an example to guide you.
You could also use some more stylistic colors for a less realistic but equally cool interpretation of the image!
