Van’s Sandwich is about a boy who is hungry for lunch so he decides to make a sandwich…A really, really big sandwich! He adds all sorts of interesting food combinations on the sandwich throughout the book. Instead of eating it all by himself, he shares it with all of his friends.
After doing a bit of research I found out this book is part of a Discovery Phonics Series of 30 books, sold in packs of 6. I saw it at my local thrift store and grabbed it for $.50 but my local library doesn’t carry it.
Here are some other books about sandwiches you could check out to do this craft:
–The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord (Click HERE to see our craft with this book)
–Sam’s Sandwich by David Pelham
–The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania of Jordan Al Abdullah with Kelly Dipucchio
–City Hall Sandwich by Annie Auerbach
For the olives, the kids cut out little circles from black paper and we used a hole punch to put the hole in the middle. We used a hole punch for the swiss cheese too.
It was fun to add real food elements to this sandwich. We used real sprinkles, pretzels and dried banana chips. For the marshmallows we used cotton balls and the jelly and chocolate sauce was just acrylic paint.
Happy Crafting!!
I like to link my posts up to THESE fun link parties.
