Christmas is less than 2 weeks away and we have been in full force crafting mode. It’s been so fun! After watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on TV the other night our latest interest is Elves. We loved making this Paper Bag Elf.
Supplies you will need:
- white paper bag
- flesh tone paint
- green, white and yellow cardstock paper
- scissors
- 2 large googly eyes
- black marker
- red circle sticker
- glue
- red buttons
Directions:
1. Cut off the bottom of paper bag, paint the top section of bag
Start by cutting about 2 inches off the bottom of your paper bag. I feel like this helps kids have a little more control over using the paper bag as a puppet because it’s not quite as long. Next paint the top section of your paper bag (which is the very bottom of the bag when it’s opened) with your flesh colored paint. Also, paint a section of your white cardstock paper with your flesh toned paint for your elf ears.
2. Cut out rectangle and triangle shape pieces
While your paint is drying, cut out a rectangle shape to cover the bottom section of your paper bag and cut out a tall triangle for the hat. Fold the top of the hat down, put a dab of glue under the fold to hold it down and set aside both pieces for a minute.
3. Cut out remaining craft pieces
Cut out these remaining pieces: a yellow strip of hair, a circle for your elf hat, a white strip for the brim of the hat, and 2 elf ears from your flesh tone painted white cardstock.
4. Assemble elf
Assemble your elf. Glue the green rectangle onto the bottom section of the paper bag. Glue the yellow hair at the top of the elf. Glue an elf ear on each side of the face inside the side fold of the paper bag. Glue the white strip onto the elf hat (leaving some of the green section underneath it), add glue to that green section underneath the white brim, and glue it to the back of the paper bag.
5. Glue two eyes and two red buttons
Glue 2 large googly eyes onto the face and the 2 red buttons onto the elf body.
6. Glue nose, draw a smile
Finish your elf by adding on the red sticker nose and drawing a smile with your black marker.
