How to Draw A Squid – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
As we get this guide on how to draw a squid going, we will start with the bulbous eye and head outline for the creature.
The eye will be very simple, as all you need is to draw a circle with a large black dot in the middle of it.
With that drawn, you can then add some curved lines surrounding it, almost as if you were going to be drawing another circle around it.
There will be a gap at the bottom of it, and you can extend two small lines from the top for the base of the top of the head.
Then you’re ready to move to step 2!
Step 2 – Next, start drawing the body and fin of the squid
In this second step we will be drawing the body and fin for your squid drawing.
The body of a squid is known as the mantle, and you can draw it with some more curved lines extending up from the little lines you drew for the base earlier.
This will give a nice plump mantle for the squid. Then, you can add some more curved lines with a point at the end onto the mantle for the fin of the squid.
Then you can finish off this step by drawing some lines on the inner outline of the mantle for some extra details.
Step 3 – Now, draw the first tentacles
Squid are known for their mass of bendy tentacles, and we will start to add them in this step of our guide on how to draw a squid.
It can be a bit intimidating drawing such a mass of tentacles, so for that reason we will take it a bit slowly.
For now, we will only be drawing four tentacles that will extend down from the body that surrounds the eye from step one.
Simply use some wavy lines to create the wavy tentacles curving outward, as shown in the reference image.
Then we can continue adding even more tentacles in the next few parts, so let’s proceed!
Step 4 – Next, draw some more tentacles for the squid
We shall continue adding to the mass of tentacles for this part of your squid drawing!
For this part, you can draw a small clump of three tentacles in the right-hand side empty space that was left between the other two tentacle clumps.
Once you have drawn these tentacles, you have just a few more to add along with some final details in the next step before you start adding some amazing colors.
Step 5 – Now, finish off your squid drawing
This fifth step of our guide on how to draw a squid will be all about adding the final tentacles along with some details and last touches.
First, add three more thin tentacles to the final empty space that’s left. Then it’s just a matter of adding some final touches!
As shown in the reference image, you can add some lines and dots to some of the tentacles to show their undersides that have little suctions on them.
Then, there are some smaller line details that you can add throughout the head, body and fin of the squid to give it some more texture detail.
Once you have added all of this, you have finished this guide! Before you move on to the final step, you can also add some details of your own.
You could draw a background to show the ocean this squid is swimming in, and you can also add some more sea creatures that you like.
What extra details and elements will you add to this image to finish it off?
Step 6 – Finish off your squid drawing with some color
In the final part of your squid drawing, you will bring it to life with some amazing colors!
In our reference image, we went with some pink shades for it, but the good news is that this is just one of many color schemes you could go for.
Squid can come in any colors you can imagine, so that gives you a lot of options to go for as you color in.
You could make the colors as bright or subdued as you like, and you could also incorporate your favorite art mediums to achieve the colors.
The best part of a drawing like this is that there are no wrong answers for how to do it, so let your creativity flow and see what happens!
