How to Draw Puzzle Pieces – Let’s Get Started!

Step 1how to draw Puzzle Pieces step 1

In this first step of our guide on how to draw puzzle pieces, we will be starting with the base of the square puzzle.

Drawing the puzzle pieces can take a little getting used to, as they have a rather distinctive shape to them.

Using some curved lines, draw the smooth-edged outlines of the puzzle pieces, and be sure to extend some rounded shapes out from them.

The reference image will show you what we mean, so try your best to replicate that.

You could also add one more layer of puzzle pieces with a straight edge to form an entire puzzle. Once you’re ready, we can move on to step 2.

Step 2 – Now, draw the rest of the puzzle pieces outlinehow to draw Puzzle Pieces step 2

This second part of your puzzle pieces drawing will see you replicating what you did in the first step, only this time it will be for the top half of the puzzle.

Using the reference picture to help you, simply draw the top half of the puzzle. Try to keep in mind where there will be rounded indents extending in or out of the puzzle.

The way that you position these will be important when we start drawing some individual pieces in the inner section of the puzzle in future steps.

We will start doing just that as we move to the third step of the guide!

Step 3 – Next, draw the inner details for the bottom row of the puzzlehow to draw Puzzle Pieces step 3

You have completed the outline for your puzzle, and now we can start to draw some individual pieces in this step of our guide on how to draw puzzle pieces.

Using the reference picture as an example, we will be drawing the bottom layer.

To make things easier for yourself, you could use a light pencil to draw a wavy line near the bottom of the puzzle to create an outline for this row of pieces.

Once you have that, you can then use your pen to draw the round indents and parts sticking out, as shown in the reference image.

If you did use a pencil line to help you, then you can erase it now, as you won’t be needing it anymore.

Step 4 – Draw the next layer of puzzle pieceshow to draw Puzzle Pieces step 4

Continuing on with your puzzle pieces drawing, you’re now ready to draw the next layer of pieces.

To do this, you will essentially be doing what you did in step 3 of the guide again.

The difference will be that last time the indent was in the middle with two parts sticking out on either side, and this time it will be the opposite to that.

That means that the two pieces on the outer edges will have the indent holes on top, whereas the one in the middle will have a part sticking out.

Then you will be ready to add the final layers in the next step of the guide.

Step 5 – Add the final touches for your puzzle pieces drawinghow to draw Puzzle Pieces step 5

This fifth step of our guide on how to draw puzzle pieces will see you finishing the outlines for the remaining rows of puzzle pieces.

To do this, you can simply replicate what you have been doing in the previous two steps to finish off these layers.

Once you have drawn the final pieces for this puzzle, you are ready for the final step of the guide!

Before you move on, you could also add to this puzzle. One fun idea would be to pick an image and draw it onto the face of this puzzle to make it look like a real puzzle.

If you would like to do this, then you have a lot of freedom as you could draw any image you can imagine onto it! What picture would you like to make a puzzle image out of?
