How to Draw A Palm Leaf – Let’s Get Started!
When you look at a palm leaf, you will see that it is made up of lots of separate leaves on a single large central branch, and this can start to make it rather tricky to draw!
For that reason, we will take it rather slowly in this guide on how to draw a palm leaf, and we will break it down into smaller steps.
First, draw a small, thin section with a pointy tip for the base of the branch.
Then, we shall start drawing some leaves onto this branch. Each of these leaves will be drawn using some rounded lines that will form these thin shapes.
Each one will also have a pointy tip at the end, as shown in our reference picture. Then you can proceed to step 2 of this guide!
Step 2 – Now, draw more rows of leaves
You drew the first leaves for this palm leaf drawing in the first step, and now we shall draw the next few.
This may not be as easy as you expect, as these next leaves will not be identical to the previous ones. Instead, each leaf will actually get a little bit longer as you go along.
The reference image will show you how it should look, and you should try your best to replicate it, as we are going for a rather specific overall shape.
There will also be a very small gap in between each leaf, as this will form the central branch. Once this is drawn, you’ll be ready for step 3!
Step 3 – Draw the next section of leaves
You’re doing a great job on this guide on how to draw a palm leaf! In this next step, you will be drawing another large section of leaves.
These next leaves will also be rather large, but they will be ever so slightly shorter than the previous set of leaves.
The central branch will also be a bit more visible now, and you can draw it using some lines going down in the center.
That’s all there is to it for now, and we shall continue adding to the image in the next step of the guide.
Step 4 – Next, add another large section of leaves
We will be adding another large section of leaves to your palm leaf drawing in this fourth step of the guide.
We will be getting closer towards the tip of the palm leaf now, so these leaves will all get a bit shorter the further you get to the end.
As you can see in our example, the leaf will also start listing to the right a bit, and this helps to make the leaf look like it has a bit more weight to it.
There will be just one more section to draw in the next step, and we will also add any final details or extra touches in that step!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your palm leaf drawing
Now you’re ready to add the final section in this step of our guide on how to draw a palm leaf! This will be the tip of the palm leaf, and it will get thinner and thinner the further you go.
Once you have finished this last section, you will be ready to add some color in the final step! Before you do, there are also some final details that you could add in this step.
You could draw a background as one suggestion, and you could use a lovely tropical background to create a vacation feel for this picture. What else can you think of to finish off this image?
Step 6 – Finish off your palm leaf drawing with color
Now you’re ready to close off this palm leaf drawing with some colors! Palm leaves are famous for their rich green coloring, and this is what we went for in our reference image.
We used various shades of dark green to create a lovely texture for the leaf, and you can go for a similar approach if you like this look!
You could also use any other colors you love for the image.
You could use some browns and yellows for a more aged look to this leaf, or you could use your favorite bright colors for a more stylistic approach.
What colors and art mediums will you use for this image?

You could even add more than one tree if you want to draw lots of leaves.
