How to Draw A Cartoon Turkey – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
We shall begin this cartoon turkey drawing with the head and face, and we have a really fun, wacky facial expression for this fun turkey design!
You can start the face by drawing a simple oval shape for the first eye. This will then have a curved line attached to it for the other eye. We will then add a black dot inside each eye for the pupils.
Next, we will draw the beak of the turkey. This will be drawn using some curved lines with a few pointy tips for areas such as the tip of the beak.
The mouth will be wide open and colored in black except for the tongue at the bottom of the mouth.
Finally, finish off by drawing the rest of the head outline around the eyes with some more rounded lines, and then we can move on.
Step 2 – Now, draw the wings and neck
In this second step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon turkey, we will be adding the neck and wings for this wacky guy!
We will begin with the neck to make things easier. First, draw two lines coming down from the base of the beak.
These lines will fan out into some curved feathery portions as we show in the reference image.
The wings will then attach directly to this neck portion. They will also be drawn with curved and rounded lines, and they will be made up of three large feathers.
Each feather will get a bit smaller the lower down you get as well. Then, we can move on to step 3!
Step 3 – Next, draw the body outline
Continuing with this guide, we will now add the rest of the body outline. This design has a chubby, rounded body, and for that reason we will use some large rounded lines for this outline.
These lines won’t be solid, however, as there will be two sections poking out at the base of the body.
These will have some pointy curved sections poking off of them, and these are where the legs will poke out later.
Finish off with some more pointy lines on the chest, and then we can move on!
Step 4 – Now, draw the tail and legs
One of the most recognizable parts of a turkey’s appearance would have to be its large tail, and we will add that along with the feet to your cartoon turkey drawing now.
We shall start with the legs. These will be quite short and thin, and they will poke out from those sections that we added to the base of the body earlier.
The feet will be fairly long and flat with rounded toes.
The tail will be made up of many large feathers with rounded ends that fan out behind the turkey. Once these elements have been added, we can move on to some final details!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your drawing
Now you’re ready to add the final small details and elements to this cartoon turkey drawing as we prepare for the final step of the guide.
These details are all pretty simple, but they will be effective with finishing off this awesome depiction.
We added some straight lines across the feathers near to the rounded tips and then added some lines onto the feet and around the feathers to show motion.
These are the details that we chose for this turkey, but you could also add many more of your own!
These could include smaller details on the turkey, but they could also include creating a fun background setting for this turkey to be in.
What kinds of extra touches can you think to add to this creative turkey?
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
In this final step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon turkey, we will finish off with some colors.
In our reference image, we went with various shades of browns for the feathers and then used some mild yellows for the tips of the feathers.
We also used some oranges and reds for different smaller details such as the beak and legs.
You could also use similar colors for your own drawing, but this is your chance to really let your creativity flow as well!
When you know which colors you will use, you can also have fun with the various art tools and mediums that you choose to help you achieve the kinds of colors you’re looking for.
