When hot days roll around, it can be a great excuse to head outside for some Summer fun! The heat can get a bit much sometimes though, and in these instances we need ways to help us cool down.
One of the best ways to do is by enjoying some cold ice cream, and we will be creating a really fun version of this cold treat in this guide on how to draw a cartoon ice cream!
We have a version of ice cream that is unlike any you’ll have seen in real life, and it should prove to be a fun drawing challenge!
Get ready to cool down with some creative drawing fun as we begin this step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon ice cream in just 7 easy steps.
How to Draw A Cartoon Ice Cream – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
What could be better than a dollop of ice cream on a hot day? The answer would be two dollops! Could anything be better than that?
Three dollops, of course! For that reason, the treat we will be designing in this guide on how to draw a cartoon ice cream will have three layers to it.
We will begin drawing the first of these three layers in this step of our guide.
This will have a rounded upper section that is drawn with quite a smooth line. We will then use some curved, bumpy lines for the bottom of this layer of ice cream.
For extra detail, we will draw some of the ice cream melting and running down to the next layer. Then, we will be ready for the next step of the guide!
Step 2 – Draw the second layer of the ice cream
Now, we will add the second layer of this cartoon ice cream drawing.
This one will be very similar in shape and design to the upper layer, but because it is underneath the first one we won’t see the top of this layer.
This second layer will also have a portion dripping down to the portion that will be beneath it.
Speaking of that portion, we will add it in the next step of the guide!
Step 3 – Next, draw the third layer of ice cream
We still need one more layer of ice cream before it’s complete, so let’s add it now! Once again, this layer will be drawn in a very similar way to the previous two layers.
Once again, there will also be a small drip dropping down from this one. You could even add more of these dripping sections if you would like to make it look like it’s being enjoyed on a really hot day!
We can then move on to some other details and aspects in the next step of the guide.
Step 4 – Now, draw the outline for the cone
The next thing this ice cream needs is a cone to bring it all together, and we will add that in this step! The outline of the cone will be triangular in shape, but it will be a rounded triangle.
The outline will also be drawn using a bumpy line to make it look more textured.
Once you have drawn this cone, we can move on to step 5!
Step 5 – Draw some facial details
At the beginning of this guide on how to draw a cartoon ice cream, we mentioned that this would be unlike any other ice cream you’ve ever seen in real life.
This will become apparent in this fifth step, as now we will add a cute smiling face for your ice cream!
The eyes will be drawn using some simple curved lines with little eyelashes coming off of them.
Then, we will draw a smiling mouth using two small curved lines connecting to one another. In the next step of the guide, we will finish off some final details and touches!
Step 6 – Now, add the final details
The final detail for this cartoon ice cream drawing that we need to add will be some texture details on the cone.
This is a part of the drawing that may actually be the trickiest one, so be sure to take it nice and slow!
The texture will be drawn using some diamond shapes in rows. The reference image will show you how these should be positioned to make them look convincing, so try to follow it as you draw!
You can also add some extra details to really finish this off. We think drawing a nice Summer themed background would be great for this, but how will you finish it off?
Step 7 – Finish off your drawing with some color
Everyone has a favorite flavor of ice cream, and you will get to show off some of your favorites in this final step!
In our reference image, we used a light pink for the top layer and a darker shade for the middle layer.
The bottom one is chocolate brown, and then the cone has some lovely orange and gold shades to finish it off.
These are the colors we chose, but if you would like to use others for your own drawing that will show off your favorite flavors, then you should definitely do so!

Seeing as it’s just a drawing, you don’t have to worry about it toppling over. You could make it as tall as you like and create your very own ultimate ice cream tower.
It could be comically tall and threatening to fall over to make a really fun picture! How tall would you like this ice cream tower to be?
Once you are happy with how big your cartoon ice cream is, you could then customize it even further with some toppings.
These could be subtle but still help you with adding some great small details and colors.
