So get ready for some Winter fun no matter the time of year as you begin this step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon snowman in just 6 easy steps!
How to Draw A Cartoon Snowman – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
If you want to take your snowman to the next level, you can add hats and other items of clothing to make it look really cool!
We will be drawing a hat for this snowman design as we begin this first step. Snowmen are also common around Christmas time, so there will be a Christmas detail as well.
For the rim of this top hat, draw two curved lines close to one another, as shown in the reference image.
Then, we will draw a holly plant pinned to the hat for that Christmas touch we mentioned! This can be drawn with three small circles clumped together with three pricky leaves attached.
Finally, use some more curved lines for the body of the hat outline, and then it’s time for step 2!
Step 2 – Now, draw a head for your snowman
For this second step of this guide on how to draw a cartoon snowman, we will be drawing the head of this cute snowman.
Before drawing the round head outline, we will first draw the carrot nose that he has. We will begin with this nose as it will be poking out of the outline.
The nose is rounded at the far right-hand end, and it gets thinner and pointier the further it goes. It will also have some simple lined texture details along it.
For the eyes, we will use two solid black ovals with some white detailing, and there will also be a simple smiling mouth below. Finally, finish off this step with a circular head.
Step 3 – Next, add a scarf and other small details
When it comes to clothing, we won’t be stopping at a hat! In this third part of your cartoon snowman drawing we will also add a scarf for this cute snowman.
First, draw a long, slightly curved rectangular shape dropping down from the neck for one strand of the scarf.
Then, use some rounded lines for the scarf wrapped around the neck. There will then be another strand dropping down next to the other one.
Finally, draw three round shapes going down along his belly for his rock buttons. Then it’s time for step 4 of the guide!
Step 4 – Now, draw his body outline
This next step should be an easy one, as we will simply be drawing the outline of his body. Luckily for us, snowmen usually have a simple round structure to each body portion!
For the body, we will be drawing a simple, large circular shape beginning and ending at each end of the scarf around the neck.
The reference image will show you how this should look. Then, we will finish off this step by adding a slightly curvy line at the base for the ground it is standing on.
We will then be ready for some final details in the next step of the guide, so let’s proceed when you’re ready.
Step 5 – Add the final details to your cartoon snowman drawing
We will be adding some color to this drawing when we reach the final step of this guide on how to draw a cartoon snowman, but first we have some final details to add.
Specifically, we will be drawing the arms for this cartoon snowman. Like many real snowmen, this one has arms made out of pointy sticks.
We will draw them as some thin shapes that have some small, pointy branches coming off of the ends.
Once you have drawn these arms, you will be ready for the final step of the guide! Be sure to add any extra details of your own that you may like as well, though.
You could draw a background or change up some of the details as a few ways to personalize this drawing! How will you finish it off before the final step?
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
As promised, it’s time to finish off this amazing cartoon snowman drawing with some colors!
This is a part where you can really have fun getting creative with it, but we have shown you some ways that you could color this snowman to get you started.
We used blues for the had with reds and green for the holly. Then, we used warm orange for the nose and reds for the scarf.
We finished off with browns for the arms, and then light greys for the shading on the snowman itself.
Will you use similar colors to the ones we used, or do you think you will go for a different approach? We can’t wait to see what you choose!
5 Tips To Make Your Cartoon Snowman Drawing Even Better!
Check out these super cool tips for your cartoon snowman sketch!
This drawing of a cartoon snowman shows one that is dressed in a cool hat and scarf. These clothing details have been left quite bare, so you could customize them in many ways.
This could be in the form of some patterns or fun colors and textures. There are so many ways you could change them, and you can also add different kinds of clothing pieces.
We also kept the facial expression of this cartoon snowman nice and simple. This looks great, but you could also change the expression or make it more detailed.
For example, you could make the mouth look like it’s made out of lots of little pebbles. Or, you could make the facial expression more exaggerated!
Right now, this cartoon snowman drawing shows one that is made up of two large balls of snow. This works for the design, but you could also add more layers to the snowman.
For example, there could be one more large ball of snow at the base, and this would allow for more customization. You could even create a more dynamic pose for him as well.
Creating a unique snowman is fun in real life, and it’s fun when drawing. Now that you have finished your cartoon snowman, you could add some friends for him!
This could be in the form of some new snow-people, or you could draw the human who created him. If you made some new snowy creations then you could really let your imagination run wild!
Who would you like to add to the drawing?
Finally, you could also create a fun background for your cartoon snowman sketch. As you might imagine, this background would probably involve a lot of snow.
Even so, you could still add details such as trees and maybe even some cozy houses. This would be great to combine with some of our other tips, too!
