How to Draw A Cartoon Nurse – Let’s get Started!

Step 1how to draw a cartoon nurse step 1

We mentioned in the introduction of this guide on how to draw a cartoon nurse that we have a really cute portrayal of a nurse for you to draw, and you will see that as we draw!

For now, we will keep things simple, as we will be drawing the start of her dress uniform.

The style that we are going for in this guide has her with a really large head with a small body, so that’s worth keeping in mind as we work on it.

The sleeves will be rather small, and then the lower part of her dress will curve outwards. We will also leave a gap at the collar and on the left side of her dress, but we will fill those in soon enough!

Step 2 – Next, start drawing the outline for her head and her armhow to draw a cartoon nurse step 2

There were two blank spaces left in the previous step, but we will fill them in now! For the bottom of her face, we will use a curved line with a blank space for the top half.

Then, we will extend a fairly short, thin arm from the sleeve on the left that will bend over to touch her hip.

That’s all there is to it for this step, and then we can move on!

Step 3 – Now, start drawing her hairhow to draw a cartoon nurse step 3

The nurse that we are drawing has a fairly large hairstyle, and we will start drawing it in this third step.

The outlines of the hairstyle will be drawn using some curved lines that both surround the head and also extend inside the interior.

Then, we will add some texture to the hair by adding lots of curved line details inside of the outlines. Be sure to leave another space at the top of her head, as we will add a hat there soon!

Step 4 – Next, draw her hat and clipboardhow to draw a cartoon nurse step 4

Nurses have a lot to keep track of, so you will usually see them with their trusty clipboards! We will give this nurse her clipboard in this next step.

First, let’s add her hat that we left a space for preciously. The hat is a curved design that has a rounded top section.

It will fill in the space left on her head nicely, and then we can draw the clipboard. It has a curved rectangular shape to it, and it will be held in her right arm.

Step 5 – Now, draw some facial featureshow to draw a cartoon nurse step 5

For this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon nurse, we will add some facial features for her!

For her eyes, we will use some oval shapes that have curved lines at their bases.

Her inner eye details will be drawn as circles with dots inside, and we will also draw some small curved eyelashes coming off the eyes.

Finally, the last details to add will be some eyebrows above the eyes and simple curved lines for her nose and smiling mouth.

Step 6 – Next, draw some legs for the nursehow to draw a cartoon nurse step 6

This cartoon nurse drawing is looking great already! She needs some legs before we add some final touches, however, so let’s add those now!

Her legs will be drawn in scale with her body, so this means that they will be relatively short and thin.

Then, you can add some shoes at the ends of her legs. The one on the left will point to the left whereas the other will be pointed straight ahead.

Once these legs are drawn, we will be able to add some final details in the next step!

Step 7 – Next, draw some final detailshow to draw a cartoon nurse step 7

You’re ready to add some final touches in this step! Then, we can truly finish it off with some colors. First, we will draw a cross onto her hat as the first of these details.

Then, draw some buttons going down her uniform and finish off by adding some small, thin rectangular pockets.

Once these final small details are there, you could also draw some extra details of your own! For one idea, you could draw a fun hospital-themed background for her to be in.

What other details and settings can you think of?

Step 8 – Now finish it off with some colorhow to draw a cartoon nurse step 8

For the final step of the guide, we will finish off by adding some color to your creation.

We kept the colors a bit more muted in our example image, as nurses do not normally dress in colorful, flashy colors.

The cross on her hat is red with some lovely blues for her eyes, and these add some great splashes of brighter color.

Will you use similar colors to the ones that we chose, or will you go for a unique color scheme instead? Let your creativity flow as you finish off this amazing drawing!

4 More Ways To Make Your Cartoon Nurse Drawing Unique

Have some fun as we prescribe some extra tips for your cartoon nurse sketch!

This drawing of a cartoon nurse is armed with a clipboard, but there are many other tools that nurses use. You could add some of them to this picture to have her more prepared!

A few examples could include a syringe or maybe a stethoscope. These are smaller ones, but you could also have her with a wheelchair or maybe a gurney.

That is just a small selection of the tools that a nurse may use, but you can probably think of many more that she could be posed with!

Nurses are there to help doctors heal people, so adding a doctor to this image would be a fun way to make it more thematic. This doctor could be drawn in a similar style to the nurse to make them fit in.

Or, you could add a doctor and a second nurse to create a full medical team! Who would you base these characters on if you were to add some more to the picture?

Once you have your medical team assembled, you could then add some patients to your cartoon nurse drawing. Again, you would probably want to portray them in a similar style to this nurse.

It would be great to show the hopeful side of medical care, so the patients could be looking pleased at their recovery! Having happy patients with the medical team would finish off this scene brilliantly.

Finally, you could finish off your cartoon nurse sketch with a background. The obvious choice for this background would be a hospital setting, but even so, you would have many options.

It could be in a hospital lobby or a room of one of the patients. If you have recently been to a real hospital, you could use it to help you as you draw.

Otherwise, looking up photos of real hospitals would be very helpful as you draw. What other locations could you use as a background to finish off this artwork?
