That is what we are here to learn as we begin this guide. We have a really fun picture for you to draw, and the steps will make it easy for you to learn!
There are some nice details included in this design, but breaking it down into smaller steps can make things much easier for you.
So let’s begin this wonderful step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon grandma in just 9 fun and easy steps!
How to Draw A Cartoon Grandma – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
We will begin this guide on how to draw a cartoon grandma with her head and face. First, we will draw the glasses she is wearing.
These will have circular outlines, with a slightly smaller circle inside of that outline. Then, we will use two small black circles with a white dot in each one for her eyes.
Next, we will use some rounded lines and shapes for her nose, mouth and chin. Finally, use some more bumpy, rounded lines for her curly hair, and then we can proceed to step 2.
Step 2 – Next, add some more hair and facial details
Now, we can add some more hair and lines for the face of this cartoon grandma drawing!
You can use some more curved, bumpy lines to add a bun to the back of her head. Then, use another slightly curved line for the base of her face on the right.
That’s all there is to it for now, and then you’re ready for step 3!
Step 3 – Now, finish off the face outline and start her chest
You can finish off the outline for her face in this step, and we will also start drawing her chest in this part.
For her face, there is one more curved line to be added on the left side of the drawing, and this will begin and end from her glasses to her chin.
Then, you can draw a small round collar at the base of her head, and then use some rounded lines for her chest.
Step 4 – Next, draw some details for the jacket she is wearing
In this fourth part of our guide on how to draw a cartoon grandma, we will be drawing some more of the clothing she is wearing.
First, you can use a slightly curved line for her waist, and then we will add a lapel for the jacket she is wearing.
Then, draw the part of her jacket going over her waist and add two buttons to finish this step off.
Step 5 – Now, draw her arm
Continuing with this cartoon grandma drawing, we will now be adding her arm on the right! This will also be drawn with some curved lines, and there will be a small hand at the end of the sleeve.
You can also draw the thin, curved handle of her handbag that she is holding. We will draw that handbag later on in the guide!
Step 6 – Next, draw more of her coat
This next step should be rather simple. We will be drawing the other lapel of her coat in this step, and it will look very similar to the one on the right.
Simply use the reference image to draw this side of her coat as it appears there, and then we can proceed!
Step 7 – Draw her legs next
Your picture is already looking great so far! In the next few steps of this guide on how to draw a cartoon grandma, we will be finishing off the final touches before we color her in.
First, draw the short legs of her pants using more curved lines that have flat bases. We will see her thin ankles, and then her shoes will go beneath those.
There will be a gap beneath the handle of her handbag, but we will fill that in along with any final details in the next step.
Step 8 – Next, draw her handbag
This step of the guide will focus on finishing up the details of the drawing before we color her in the next step.
The main aspect of this drawing will be adding her handbag that we started previously. This handbag is rather squared in shape, and it has a little clasp on it as well.
Once you have drawn the handbag, you can then add any extra details of your own!
These could include a background or some extra details, and there are no wrong answers with how you choose to finish it off. We can’t wait to see what you pick!
Step 9 – Now finish it off with some color
For the final step of this cartoon grandma drawing, we will be finishing off with some colors.
In our example image, we showed you a few ways that you could color this cute grandma, and if you like these choices then you could use them for your own one!
You could also choose any other colors that you like for the drawing, as it’s all about expressing your creativity!
It’s up to you now, so how will you finish this off?
Here’s how you can make your cartoon grandma drawing even better…
Slow down and have some fun as we make this cartoon grandma sketch look even better!
This drawing of a cartoon grandma is equipped with glasses and a handbag, but you could add even more accessories!
These could be some clothing items or something that she would use in her day to day life.
For example, you could give her a walking stick, a book or some knitting to hold onto. These are a few ideas, but how else could you have this cartoon grandma ready for her day?
Once this cartoon grandma looks perfect to you, you could then add some additional characters. One idea would be to create a grandpa character to walk beside her.
Or, you could also add some grandkids or maybe her adult children. These are a few suggestions, but you can add any other characters you can think of in order to create some fun settings.
Who else would you like to add to this drawing to finish the scene?
Another way that you can finish off the scene in this cartoon grandma drawing would be by adding a background. That would be a great way to show where this grandma is spending her day!
For example, she could be at home sitting beside the fireplace or maybe doing some shopping at the supermarket.
These are two basic ideas, but you could put her in any setting that you can think of!
Don’t be shy to add some fun and unusual backgrounds!
This cartoon grandma sketch that we created in this guide does not look like any real person. One way you could make it more personal would be to change some details to look like a real person!
For example, she could be made to look like your very own grandma. If you were to do this, then any additional characters you add could also be made to look like real people.
You could even add yourself to the picture for a fun twist!
