It’s so much fun to visit the beach, but unless you live next to one then it’s not practical to make it happen every day. Creating your own beach drawing can be the next best thing, though!
That’s just what I aim to teach you here, as you will soon make a beach of your very own. Not only will you draw a beach but also some essential accessories like a beach umbrella, chair and ball.
It will be a tranquil scene that you can admire and help to imagine you’re really at the beach! It will be really simple when you see how I have broken it down, so let’s discover the process together.
It’s Easy To Make A Beach Drawing When You Watch These Steps
How to Draw A Cartoon Beach – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
For this first step of the guide, you will find yourself having a much easier time if you have a ruler on hand to help you out.
As you can see in our reference image, we will be drawing a straight horizon line for this composition.
As you can also see, this will not be one continual line, but will have gaps of varying sizes in it. These gaps will be filled by some beach accessories later on in the guide.
Before we move on, we will also add some extra details. We will draw some clouds above the ocean to start.
Then, we will finish off this step with a small sailboat sailing the horizon. That’s all there is to it for this first step, and then we can move on to step 2!
Step 2 – Now, draw a beach umbrella
It can get pretty hot on the beach, and you need to protect yourself from the harsh rays of the sun!
For that reason, we will be adding a beach umbrella in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon beach. While doing this, you’ll want to make sure you still have that ruler handy.
First, we will use some curved lines for the top of the umbrella, and it will be separated into various sections as well.
Then, when drawing the central pole of the umbrella you will see why we need that ruler.
Draw some straight lines close to one another for this pole, and then draw the flaps coming down from the other side.
This umbrella can be surprisingly tricky, so take your time with it and follow the reference image closely.
Step 3 – Next, add a beach chair
Having an umbrella is all well and good, but you also need something to sit on. We will be taking care of that aspect in this step of your cartoon beach drawing!
This beach chair that we are adding can also prove a bit harder to draw than you may expect, but that’s what the reference image is there for.
It has rigid frames drawn with some straight lines, and then some curved lines will make up the fabric portions.
Be sure to leave a space on the left side, as this will be filled by some more beach objects later. Then it will be time for step 4!
Step 4 – Now, draw the waves of the ocean
This drawing is looking really great already! In this step of the guide, we will be drawing the waves of the ocean on the shore.
The previous 2 steps were a bit challenging, so this one will be nice and easy.
All you need to do is draw some curvy, wavy horizontal lines across the sands of the beach.
Be sure to refer to the reference image as you draw these waves, as there will again be a gap left near the left side.
In the next step, we will fill these gaps in as we add the final details of this drawing!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your cartoon beach drawing
Now it’s time to add the final elements and details to really finish this scene off! First, we will fill in those gaps that you left on the chair and in the water.
You can do this by drawing a square bag that has watermelon and other goodies sticking from it. We also added a pineapple with some sunglasses in front of this bag for an extra fun touch!
Then, we created some texture for the sand by adding dots and small rounded shapes onto the sand.
Finally, we added some birds to the sky by using some curved lines. These are the details we chose to add, but this is your drawing and you could add more of your own!
This is all about creating your own perfect beach scene, so be sure to add any details you think of!
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
In this final part of this cartoon beach drawing, we will finish it off with some color! Our reference image shows you just one way that you could go about finishing off this image.
We used some lovely blue shades for the water and sky, and then balanced them off with warmer colors for the umbrella and chair.
We think that watercolor paints would be perfect for this one, as they will help to create a softer, more inviting feeling. That’s what we think, but what colors and art mediums come to mind for you?
3 More tips to make your beach drawing easy!
Relax for some drawing fun as we make this beach sketch much easier!
For this drawing of a beach, we created a setting that has a lot of elements and details to admire. These details look great, but they can also make it a bit harder to draw.
If these kinds of details are proving to make the drawing frustrating for you, then you could make it easier by leaving some of these elements out.
This may even be something you would want to do just to make the drawing closer to your own preference. For example, you may not like having any signs of human activity in your beach scene.
That could mean that you would prefer to leave out the chair we included. What are some other elements you could leave out to make it easier?
When creating this beach drawing, you shouldn’t feel like you have to stick with the art style we used. If there is a different art style you like to work in, then you should use it for this artwork!
You may like to draw in a simple cartoon style, for instance. If that is the case then you could adapt this beach scene to fit that style.
Of course, that is just one example of a style you could use, and it would depend on what you’re comfortable with.
One of the best ways that you could make this beach sketch easier would be by using the real thing to help you out as you draw. There are a few ways you could use a real beach to aid you.
If you happen to live close to a beach, then that would be perfect! You could visit this beach and then take some photos to use as a reference, or you could even sketch at the beach.
The best part of this method is you would get to make a day of it! If you don’t live near a beach, then you could simply look up some photos of real beaches.
