In ancient Greek mythology, the gods were plentiful and unique, and each one was typically associated with a certain characteristic.
Some examples would be Zeus who was the god of the sky and thunder. There was also Ares, god of war, and Poseidon, god of the sea.
The god that we are focused on today is Aphrodite, and she was the goddess of things like love, fertility and all things beautiful.
Usually depicted as a beautiful woman, it can be quite a fun challenge to learn how to draw Aphrodite.
That’s why we are here today, as this tutorial in front of you will show you how to do it!

How to Draw Aphrodite – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
The image of this goddess that we will be drawing in this guide on how to draw Aphrodite will be styled after some famous Renaissance paintings depicting her.
With this in mind, we shall start by drawing her face. Start this by drawing a sharply curved line for the lower half of her face and chin.
There will then be another shorter line above this, but be sure to leave a small gap between them, as we will draw some hair into that space shortly.
Then, we will be drawing her facial features. Using some rounded shapes with pointy corners, we can draw her eyes.
You can also add some lines above and below the eyes to give them more personality. Then, use some simple lines and shapes for her nose and eyebrows.
We will then finish off by drawing her lips, and then you can proceed to the next step.
Step 2 – Now, draw some hair and facial details
Now we will start adding the luscious locks of hair to your Aphrodite drawing in this step. Each lock of hair will be its own shape, and you can draw them with some rounded lines that have curled tips at the ends.
In addition to drawing the start of her hair, we will also be filling in some details for her eyes. To do this, simply draw some small black dots for her pupils. Then you will be ready for step 3 of the guide!
Step 3 – Next, draw some more locks of hair and start her neck
You started drawing some hair for her in the previous step of this guide on how to draw Aphrodite, and in this third step we shall draw some more hair.
Keep adding some more of those curled locks that you began in the previous part, and you can also draw a larger curled lock over her shoulder on the left.
Once you have drawn these locks of hair, you can then add some more long, curved lines for her neck. This depiction is a bit stylized, so her neck will be longer than a real neck would be.
Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of her hair outlines
Your Aphrodite drawing is already looking great! In the next few steps, we will be adding the final touches to make it look even better. In this step, you will be drawing the rest of the hair on her head.
That means drawing even more curling locks coming off of her head. You can also draw a thick ponytail coming off of the back of her head.
The last thing to draw in this step will be another curved line for her shoulder on the right.
Once all of these details have been drawn, you will be ready to move on to the next step where you will add the final touches.
Step 5 – Add the final details to your Aphrodite drawing
All of the outlines for your picture are complete, and now you’re ready to add the final details and touches in this step of our guide on how to draw Aphrodite.
In this step, we will be focused mainly on adding lots of line details to make her look even more dynamic.
These line details will mainly go throughout her hair, so you can add lots of curved lines inside of the hair outlines to make it look like they’re made of individual strands.
Once you have added all of this hair detail, you can then focus on adding some details of your own!
You could draw more of her body for one idea, or you could draw a background to show what setting she is in.

Step 6 – Finish off your Aphrodite drawing with color
Now you’re ready to finish off this Aphrodite drawing by adding some incredible colors to your picture. We showed you how we would color this image with our reference image.
In it, we colored her hair in a golden blonde color, and then we used some light blue for her eyes and the bands tying her hair into a ponytail.
These are just some of the colors that you could go for, but you should definitely use any colors you like for it! Then you can choose the art mediums you will use for it!
We would recommend using a painterly medium such as watercolor paints or acrylics for a classic look. Anything you use will look great though, so let your creativity flow!

This high level of detail can also make it more difficult to draw her, so you may want to simplify the image a bit.
How you go about doing this would depend on your preferences for drawing style. For instance, you may like drawing in a classic comic book style.
You could adapt this image to that style and it would look great! Making the image simpler and more cartoony would be another approach that you could take.
What are some styles you could use for this portrayal?
Another way that you could make this Aphrodite drawing a bit easier would be to use a photo of a real person to aid you as you draw. This person wouldn’t have to look exactly like the design, either.
When choosing a stand-in model, try to get a photo of someone in a fairly similar pose to this design. If you know someone who would be willing to recreate the pose, you could take your own photo to use!
Otherwise, you could find some stock images or pictures of celebrities and models online that you could use. Doing this will help to get the facial details and head proportions looking realistic!
Finally, you can also use pencils and other techniques to make your Aphrodite sketch easier. Using a light pencil, you can use rough shapes to start mapping out the face and hair details.
Then, you can add layers of details until you start to replicate the steps of our guide. Using a pencil is helpful as you don’t need to worry about making mistakes or getting it right.
You can also draw a vertical and horizontal line over the face that forms a cross shape. This can be used to help you position the eyes and nose correctly.
