While there may not be one clear winner, there are some that are definitely near the top of the list, and chipmunks would certainly be an example of this.
These little rodents are truly adorable, and this is even more apparent when they are in cartoon form! That’s why we will learn how to draw a cartoon rodent in this guide.

How to Draw A Cartoon Chipmunk – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
As you can see in the later images of this guide on how to draw a cartoon chipmunk, this little guy will be wearing a cap, and we will start drawing it in this first step.
First, let’s draw his eye. This can be drawn using two large, rounded shapes that have a pointy tip at each lower inner corner.
Inside the eyes, draw a circle shape and then add a large black pupil inside of these round shapes.
Then, we will use some curved and rounded lines to draw details such as his mouth, teeth and the outline of his face.
This face outline will have pointy edges to make him look furrier. Finally, draw some wavy lines for the rim of his cap, and then we can continue to step 2!
Step 2 – Draw some more of the face of this cartoon chipmunk
We will finish off the outline for the face of your cartoon chipmunk drawing in this next step. First, we will draw his cheek on the right.
This will have curved lines for the top and bottom, and then the side will have some pointier edges.
Finish off by adding another curved line for the back of his head, and then we can proceed.
Step 3 – Start drawing his arms and body
Now you’re ready to start drawing his arms and body in this third step of the guide. His arms will be curled over, as he is holding a great treasure; a big acorn!
For his arms, we will be using some more rounded lines, and they will also have some pointy bits poking off of them to make them look furry.
As for the acorn, the bottom will be drawn in a rounded, pointy shape with a curved cap on top. That’s all there is to it for step 3!
Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of his hat and start his legs
In step 4 of this guide on how to draw a cartoon chipmunk, we will finish off his hat and ears while also adding his first leg.
The top half of his cap will be a rounded dome shape, and there will be two vertical lines on it. Then, his ears will be drawn with curvy lines that culminate in pointy tips on top.
These ears can be surprisingly tricky to draw, so try to closely follow the reference image!
Before moving on to step 5, finish off this step by drawing his short leg with a rounded yet flat foot at the end.
Step 5 – Draw his other leg
We can add the other leg to your cartoon chipmunk drawing in this next step! The leg itself is short and rounded, and it will take on a different shape to the previous one due to the angle it is at.
Then, add a small, three-toed foot underneath the leg. That will do it for this step, and in the next one we will add any final details and elements to finish off the design!
Step 6 – Now, add the final details for this cartoon chipmunk
This chipmunk is looking great already, but he’s definitely missing something! That missing element would be his big bushy tail. And we will add that now.
The tail will also be drawn with rounded lines that have pointy tips, as we also want it to look nice and furry.
As you can see, there will also be a line going diagonally through the tail. This line will also be curved and pointy, and this will be the color separation that we will emphasize in the next step.
Then, you are ready to color this cute cartoon chipmunk in the final step of the guide! Before moving on, you can have some more fun by adding your own details.

Step 7 – Finish off your drawing with some color

In our reference image, we used some lovely reds for his cap, and then we used light browns and tan colors for the various sections of his fur.
Finally, we used some darker browns for the acorn, and these colors provide one possibility for your own drawing!
While you could go for similar colors to the ones we use, you could also go for some unique color choices of your own.
You can really let your creativity lead you as you work some magic with your colors and art mediums, so have fun with it and see how you can make your drawing even greater!
