A bed is a piece of furniture that we are all familiar with. Every night around the world, billions of people will settle down in their beds for a night of sleep.
They can also be great for a nap during the day or just to relax in too! Beds can come in all manner of shapes, sizes and styles, and learning how to draw a bed can be a rather fun experience.
With so many styles available, it can be hard to know where to start, though! In this guide, we have designed a classic style bed for you to learn how to draw.
So get ready for some artistic, relaxing fun as we take on this step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon bed in just 8 easy steps!
How to Draw A Cartoon Bed – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
We will start this drawing with the pillow and the headboard, so let’s begin! First, let’s work on the pillow. As shown in the reference image, we will be drawing the top and sides of the pillow.
There will be some curved lines for these sides, and there will be some pointy tips at the upper corners.
Then, add a horizontal curved line above it with a circle at each end. The circle on the right will have a leg coming down from it, and it will have a flat edge at the bottom. Then, it’s time for step 2!
Step 2 – Next, draw some details for the pillow and start adding the blanket
In this second step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon bed, we will be adding the start of the blanket while also adding some details to elements we have drawn already.
The blanket will curl over the mattress and end up at the base of the pillow, as we show in our reference image. This can be drawn using some curved lines that will have a flat edge at the base.
Then, draw some curved lines onto the pillow to show where there’s a crease in it. That’s all there is to do for now, so we can proceed!
Step 3 – Now, draw some more of the bed
We will be adding some of the base and the top of your cartoon bed drawing, so this is a step where you may want to use a ruler to help yourself out.
Using that ruler, we will draw a straight line underneath the bed for the base, and then draw a shorter straight line for the top edge.
Be sure to leave a space at the end of the bed as we did, as the end of the bed will go there.
Step 4 – Next, start drawing the end of the bed
Now, we can draw the board at the end of the bed. To do this, we will first be drawing a post that looks similar to the ones we drew at the head of the bed.
This means that there will be a circle with a rounded rectangle shape coming down from beneath it.
We will add to this portion of the bed soon, so let’s keep going!
Step 5 – Now, draw another post for the end of the bed
To continue building the end of the bed, we will be adding another post in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon bed.
This one will be identical to the previous one from step 4, but try to pay attention to the positioning.
The reference image will show you how they will go parallel to one another, and you can use that to help you when positioning your own one.
Step 6 – Next, finish off the end of the bed
This step of your cartoon bed drawing should be rather easy for you to do! In it, we will be finishing off the board at the end of the bed that you’ve been working on.
To do this, you can get that ruler out again and draw a line going between the two posts.
The reference image will again show you the angle this should go at, and then we can work on some final touches in the next step!
Step 7 – Draw the final touches of this cartoon bed
It’s almost time to color this bed, but first we will add some final details. First, we drew another line running parallel to the one that you drew in the previous step to show where the base of the bed is.
Then, we draw a shape above it for some decoration. Once these details are drawn, you could then add some details of your own!
These could include smaller details like a wood grain pattern on the frame, but they could also include aspects such as a teddy bear on the bed or details of the room around it.
How will you finish it off?
Step 8 – Now finish it off with some color
This is the final step of this guide on how to draw a cartoon bed, and in it we shall finish off with some colors.
This is a step where you could really get creative with it as you add your own color choices. In our example image, we used blues and greens for the blanket, pillow and mattress.
You could also go for similar colors in your own image, but don’t be afraid to go for some color choices of your own!
Here’s how you can make your cartoon bed drawing even better…
Have some relaxing fun as we make your cartoon bed sketch even better with these 4 ideas!
This drawing of a cartoon bed focuses on just the bed, but most bedrooms will have other furniture next to the bed. You could add these to your artwork to give it more of a sense of place!
Some common items would include a bedside table and a chest at the foot of the bed. These are a few ideas, but what other items do you think this bed could use?
Once you have added the extra items you think this cartoon bed needs, you could then take it even further by adding more of a background setting.
This would allow you to design an awesome bedroom for this cartoon bed to be a part of! For a fun touch, you could base it on your own bedroom and include some unique details.
Or, you could take this opportunity to let out your inner interior decorator and design your very own perfect bedroom setup.
The bed in this cartoon bed drawing is simple, and that makes it easier to draw. Once you have the hang of the design, you could customize the bed a bit more!
This could be as simple as changing the design on the duvet and sheets. Or, you could play around with the structure of the bed itself by changing how the bedframe looks.
Another fun idea would be to add a second layer to make it into a bunk bed!
Having the perfect bed and bedroom is all well and good, but it’s pointless if no one is there to enjoy it. That’s why we think it would be great to add a human character enjoying this bed!
They could be snuggled up under the covers or maybe lying on it reading a book or playing a video game. Once again, it could be fun to use your own life and base this character on yourself!
What could this character be doing on this bed?
