For this first part of your cartoon background drawing, you will need a ruler to help you out. The reason for this is that we will be framing this background in a vertical rectangle shape.
You can draw this with your ruler, or you could leave out this part if you would like to use the borders of your page as the outline.
Then, once we have the outline, we will start drawing some magnificent mountains for the scene. These will be drawn using layers of curved lines that all have a pointy tip at the top.
The lines used for these mountains will be rough and textured. There will be a lot of empty space above and below the mountains, and we will fill these in as we go.
Step 2 – Draw some snow on the tips of the mountains
We will be making these mountains a lot more picturesque as we add some snowy peaks in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon background.
To do this, we will be drawing some jagged lines across the tips of the mountains, as shown in our image.
You could position this snow a bit higher or lower if you prefer as well! That’s all for this step, and then we can move on.

It’s time to descend from the mountains for a while as we draw some rolling hills beneath them. To do this, we will draw two layers of curvy, wavy horizontal lines.
These will connect in the way that we show in the reference image, and there will again be a lot of unused space beneath them.

Step 4 – Keep adding some hills to the scene
It’s time to add some more rolling hills to this mountain landscape! To do this, we will continue drawing layers of long, wavy lines across the entirety of the landscape.
These will be in a row, and they will follow on from the last hill you drew in the previous step.
Some of these will be a bit wavier than others, and you could also make them even wavier or straighter depending on your preference.
Once these hills have been drawn, we will then be ready to finish off some final details and touches to make your drawing even better!
Step 5 – Now, you can add the final touches
This step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon background is all about adding some final touches to really bring it all together!
We will offer up some details to add, but we will also open things up for you to add your own creative touches.
First, let’s add the final element of this drawing, and as you can see that will be adding loads of clouds to the sky.
Each cloud will be drawn using some bumpy line to make them look nice and fluffy, and we will be adding a good amount of them.
This is another step where you could change up the details depending on your preference.
