How to Draw A Dinosaur – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
For the first step of this guide on how to draw a dinosaur, we will be starting from the top! The brontosaurus has a small, distinctive head, so we will be starting off with that for this guide.
Using some curved lines, you can draw in the little head as it appears in the reference image.
The picture is there to help you, but if you find yourself struggling with the shape then you could try using a pencil until you get the hang of it.
Step 2 – Next, draw in the neck
The neck of a brontosaurus is probably its most distinctive feature, so we will draw that in for this next step.
To draw this in, simply draw two curved lines down from the head of your dinosaur drawing.
The reference picture will give you a good idea of the length and angle you should aim for in your drawing.
Step 3 – Now, draw in the back of the dinosaur
Now that you have the head and neck of your dinosaur drawing, you can draw in a back for it!
This step will be easy, as you can use a line that curves up and then down like the one in the picture to create a back for the dinosaur.
Step 4 – Next, draw in the tail
As you can see, your dinosaur is really starting to take shape now! For this step, we will be adding in a nice long tail for your dinosaur drawing.
To do this, you can use a nice long line that curves in on itself at the end as it appears in the picture. Maybe you could change the angle of the tail a bit to make it look like it is wagging it like a dog!
Step 5 – Now, we add in the legs and belly
Your dinosaur drawing needs some legs to stand tall, so let’s add some in this step! The legs of the brontosaurus are quite thick at the top and get thinner as they go down.
For this step, we will only be adding in the legs that are closest to us, and we will add in the other two legs later.
Step 6 – Next, draw in the other two legs
For this shorter step, we will be adding in the other legs.
These are quite easy to add, as it just requires two curved lines behind the legs you’ve already drawn so that the legs will appear as they do in the reference picture.
You could also change the position of the legs a bit if you would like to create a different position for your dinosaur!
You could even make it look like your dinosaur is walking if you change the position up a little bit.
Step 7 – Now, you can draw in the face other details
For step 7 of this guide on how to draw a dinosaur, there’s a chance to be a bit creative! To finish off your dinosaur drawing, it just needs a nice face along with some smaller line details.
You could replicate these details as they appear in the reference picture, but you can also change a few details if you want a unique look for your picture!
For example, you could change the facial expression of your own dinosaur drawing for a fun variation. What details will you use for your dinosaur drawing?
Step 8 – Now finish it off with some color
Your dinosaur drawing is very nearly complete, and I’m sure it’s looking amazing! Before it’s done, however, it needs one more aspect.
This step will be a lot of fun because you can really let your creativity run wild as you color in your beautiful dinosaur drawing!
We’ve shown one way you could color it in with our reference picture, so you could use that as a guide or use your own favorite colors to finish it off.
Another way to personalize your drawing a bit would be to draw in a fun and colorful background for your drawing as well.
You can also have some fun with different art mediums to color in your drawing. For example, acrylic paints can give a thick, vibrant look to your colors whereas watercolor paints can give a much softer look to your images.
