It’s also an immensely popular sport for people to play for fun, yet even if you watch and play it often yourself, you may come to find that drawing a soccer ball can be harder than it looks.

How To Prepare For This Soccer Ball Drawing
Drawing something like a soccer ball may seem like an easy task on the surface. It’s just a ball, how hard can it be?
Well, it can actually be a bit harder than you may expect. There are a few reasons, and one is that it involves drawing a perfect circle.
This is next to impossible to do freehand, and that’s why we will soon recommend using a tool such as a drawing compass. These can be easily acquired at art and stationery stores.
It would be a helpful tool not only for this drawing but also for any future drawings that rely on circles for their designs. Another aspect of the design that can be tricky would be the black shapes on the ball.
These have to be specifically placed, and if you put them just anywhere then it will look weird. You don’t need to worry, however, as we will walk you through all of these tricky elements as we move through the guide.
Also, we will be covering adding a background to your drawing later in the guide. Adding a background is a way to not only make your drawing more pleasing to look at.
It can also take the focus off of the ball, meaning you don’t need to worry about making it perfect. That’s something we will cover later on, but maybe start thinking about the backgrounds you would potentially like to create.
Most importantly, remember to have fun with it! Don’t put a ton of pressure on yourself to get it right immediately.
This isn’t a race or a competition, so you should focus on learning and fun first and foremost. Now, we can begin the guide properly and see how it’s done!
How to Draw A Soccer Ball – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
You might think that we would start with a circle for this guide on how to draw a soccer ball, but we will actually start with a six-sided hexagon shape.
For this step, a ruler will be essential to get some straight edges. Drawing a hexagon can be harder than it looks, so it might take a bit of practice. You can definitely do it if you try your best!
Step 2 – Draw in a circle for the outline
We didn’t draw a circle in the previous step, but let’s do one for this next step! For this step, using a tool like a drawing compass would be very helpful to achieve a perfect circle.
If you’ve never used one of these drawing tools before, you can clip a pencil into it and then use a sharp point to rotate it around to draw a circle.
If you don’t have access to a drawing compass then you could also use a round object you have handy and then draw around it to make your circle.
No matter how you end up drawing the circle, try to get the hexagon near the center, as you can see in the image.
Step 3 – Now, we shall add more shapes for the pattern
Using your central hexagon, we shall add more shapes in this guide on how to draw a soccer ball. Instead of a six-sided hexagon, in this step we shall add a five-sided pentagon shape.
Using the reference picture as your guide, we shall add three pentagons to the edges of the central hexagon.
All this shape talk may get confusing when you’re reading it, but the reference image will help a lot with the shapes and their positioning.
Step 4 – Keep adding more shapes to your soccer ball
We’ve been drawing many shapes for your soccer ball drawing, and in this one we shall add even more.
Using the spaces between the three pentagons in the previous step, you can then use your ruler to draw in some more six-sided hexagons between them.
With all these shapes added, most of the interior of your soccer ball drawing should be filled up.
Step 5 – Now, draw in some final details
It’s time to add some final details before moving on to the last step of this guide on how to draw a soccer ball!
These details should be pretty easy for you to draw in. using your ruler, simply draw in some lines from each shape point on the edges of the outer-most shapes to the outline of the ball.
The reference picture will give you a great idea of how this should look.
Before you move on to the final stage of your soccer ball drawing, you could also draw in some final details of your own!
For example, you could draw in the logo of your favorite soccer ball brand or even the logo of the soccer team that you support.
Or, you could draw in some background details like the lines on a grassy field or even a boot about to kick the ball.

Step 6 – Finish off your soccer ball drawing with some color
Now we have the most fun of all the steps in our guide on how to draw a soccer ball: coloring it in!
Coloring in your drawing is always a fun part of the process because it lets you really express your creativity and style!
You might think that there’s not much room for interpretation with coloring in a soccer ball because they are usually just black and white, but there is still plenty of room for creativity!
You could use some of your favorite colors to color it in and make your own unique soccer ball design!
A fun touch you could also try would be to add some wear effects onto your soccer ball drawing.
Using some flecks of brown paint, you could create a muddy look for your soccer ball to give it a well-used look. Drawing in some marks and rough patches would also give the soccer ball a story to tell.

While you could go for this, there are many other variations you could go for. Some soccer balls will have colors of teams or brands instead of the usual black and white.
