How to Draw A Cartoon Caterpillar – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
We shall start this cartoon caterpillar drawing with the head of this little guy. Caterpillars are made up of lots of small sections, and we will be building up these sections throughout the guide.
For the eyes, you can simply draw some tall oval shapes that have some curved lines beneath them. They will also have some sharply curved lines above them for some extra personality.
Then, you can use some more curved lines for the outline of the head. Finally, add some thick, bent feelers on top of the head, and then we can proceed to step 2!
Step 2 – Now, draw some facial details and the first body segment
For this second step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon caterpillar, we will be drawing some facial features along with the first section of the body.
First, draw a thin, solid black oval inside each eye for the pupils. Then, add some curved lines above the eyes for some long eyelashes.
We will then be drawing the smiling mouth of this caterpillar. This will be drawn using some simple curved lines.
The first body section will then be drawn as a rounded shape that has some small, squat legs attached to it. Finish off this body section with a circular shape on the side.

Step 3 – Next, draw two more body sections
Now, we can add two more rounded body sections.
These ones will look rather similar to the first one, but they will be positioned in such a way as to show that the body is starting to make contact with the ground beneath.
The first segment and the head that you drew will be vertical and off the ground, as shown in the reference image.
Otherwise, they will have the same style of limb and body pattern that the first segment had.
Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of the body
In this fourth part, we will add the rest of the body to your cartoon caterpillar drawing.
These final two segments of the body will also be flat against the ground as they attach directly to the segments that you just drew.
They will also have the same pattern and leg styles that the previous sections had. The only difference is that the section at the end will have a slightly rounded tip at the end.

Step 5 – Add the final details to your cartoon caterpillar drawing
You will finally be able to add some last details and touches as you take on this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon caterpillar!
First, we added some small curved lines onto the back of the caterpillar’s body for some small hairs poking off of it.
Then, we added some more line details to each little foot to give them some more texture detail as well.
