Cute and Colorful Styrofoam Cup Owl Kids Craft

I don’t think I could ever get tired of owl crafts. They are seriously one of my most favorite things. I had some Styrofoam cups out for crafting the other day and got a little side tracked from my original craft idea and created this cute and colorful Styrofoam owl kids craft. They are adorable, simple to create and are fun for any time of the year. There are also some fun children’s books that are a great complement to this craft.

HOW TO MAKE A STYROFOAM CUP OWL KIDS CRAFT

Supplies you will need:

  • small Styrofoam cup (You can buy a huge package at Walmart for under $2 or I’ve also seen them at Dollar Tree.)
  • acrylic paint (color of your choice)
  • Fun Chalk Liquid Chalk Markers
  • patterned scrapbook paper
  • colored feathers
  • googly eyes
  • orange cardstock paper
  • tacky glue
  • Elmer’s X-TREME Glue Stick
Directions:
1. Start by painting the outside and bottom of your Styrofoam cup and set it aside to dry. While it dries, get your other materials out and ready. Also, cut two leaf shaped wings from your scrapbook paper and a triangle shaped beak from your orange cardstock paper.
2. Once your cup is dry, use your chalk markers to draw scallop lines along the cup to look like owl feathers. I used only one color per owl but you can use however many colors you want.
3. Add a generous amount of X-TREME glue stick onto your scrapbook paper wings and orange beak and glue them onto the owl.

4. Finish your owl by gluing on your googly eyes and a feather on each side of the owl.

I love how you can get super creative with different colors and fun patterns on scrapbook paper to make some unique looking owls. We had so much fun making several different colored owls. I think the colored eyeballs were an especially fun detail to the owls. I found them at Michael’s.
Try coupling this cute craft with the children’s book, The Little White Owl by Tracey Corderoy!

Please don't promote the use of styrofoam. It kills our environment. Did you know you can bury a styrofoam cup and go back a thousand years later and it will still be there? Change starts with us. Let's teach our kids better. 🙂

What a cute project! My granddaughter and I will use paper cups and attach the wings with brass brads so that they can move.
