If you love these powerful trucks, then this will be a tutorial you won’t want to miss.
Our step-by-step guide on how to draw a dump truck in just 6 easy steps will show you how fun and easy it can be!
How to Draw A Dump Truck – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
The picture we will be drawing in this guide on how to draw a dump truck will be quite detailed, and this can make it an intimidating picture to take on!
This guide will be breaking it down into smaller steps to make sure that these details will be easier for you to take on, and we shall start with the front of the truck.
There will be a few small, straight-edged windows on the sides of the portion that we will be designing now. Then, we will use some more straight lines to draw the edges of this section.
You will find it much easier to do if you have a ruler on hand! You can also draw some thin railed sections near to this part, and then you can move on to step 2 of the guide.
Step 2 – Now, draw the front of the truck
In this second part of your dump truck drawing, we will be drawing the front portion of the dump truck. You can start this by drawing a rectangular section.
This will then have some smaller, thin sections inside of it. Then, next to this section we will be drawing some sloped shapes that will have some cubed shapes at their bases.
Once again, you will find it much easier if you use a ruler to help you.
Try your best to closely copy the lines as they appear in our example image and you’ll get the hang of it in no time!
Step 3 – Draw the next section and the first two wheels
These vehicles will often have to carry immense loads, and for this reason they need large, strong wheels to help bear that load.
We will draw the first of these wheels in this step, but first we will be adding some more sections to the sides of the vehicle in this step of our guide on how to draw a dump truck.
This will include another railed section as well. You can also add some horizontal lines to the thin sloped sections you drew in the prior step.
Then, we will draw those wheels. These will have smooth rounded portions at the center, and then there will be some curved lines used for the rubber portions.
We will draw some angular grooves into the rubber portions to give them a better grip.
Then it’s on to step 4 of the guide!
Step 4 – Next, draw some more wheels and add the bed of the truck
We have a few more important parts to add to your dump truck drawing. First, we will add another wheel.
This will go behind the previous wheel that you drew, and tit will be the same size as well. Then, we will be drawing the flatbed of the truck.
This will be attached to a thin hydraulic pillar, and for now we shall draw the sides and the striped base of the flatbed.
Once these are drawn, we can finish off this part in the next step of the guide, and we will also take care of any final touches.
Step 5 – Add the final details to your dump truck drawing
Now you’re ready to finish off this picture before you add some colors in the final step of this guide on how to draw a dump truck!
The main thing we will be working on in this step will be the rest of the flatbed. This will be finished off with some more straight, smooth lines.
There will also be a thin, flat section poking off the end that would go near the head of the truck.
Once you have finished off this section as it appears in our reference image, you will be ready for that final step!
Before you move on, you could also add any additional details of your own that you may like.
One idea would be to draw a background that shows off just what this dump truck may be transporting. What kind of setting are you thinking of for this dump truck?
Step 6 – Finish off your dump truck drawing with color
Now you’re ready to finish off this dump truck drawing with some color! These large vehicles will often be bright in color, as this makes them easier to spot on the road or on construction sites.
This is the approach we went for in our example image, as we alternated yellow and black for the truck.
You could use similar colors for your own dump truck, but you could also go for any other colors you like!
