This is the guide to be on if you would like to know how to do just that! The steps in this tutorial will show you just how you can draw a beautiful tree.
We hope you enjoy having a festive time no matter the time of year as you embark on this step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon Christmas tree in just 6 steps!
How to Draw A Cartoon Christmas Tree – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
We will begin this guide on how to draw a cartoon Christmas tree with the base of the tree. You can start this with a rounded shape at the very bottom.
Then, we will be drawing the tree trunk. This will be drawn using two lines that curve inward and go inside the oval that you started with.
We will then be drawing the bottom branches of the tree.
Christmas trees are very prickly and angular, and we will be drawing them using some more curved lines that have pointy tips at the ends.
These pointy shapes will take on various sizes, as shown in the reference image.
Then it’s on to step 2 of the guide!
Step 2 – Now, draw the midsection of the tree and add some details
In this second step of your cartoon Christmas tree drawing, we will be drawing the next section of the tree while also adding some finer details.
To draw the next section, you can continue drawing some curved lines with pointy sections at the ends as you did for the base of the tree.
These ones will curved inward a bit as well, as we will be making the tree get narrower the further up you get. Then, add some more sharply curved lines inside the outline.
Finally, draw some texture lines inside of the trunk to give it that wooden look.
Step 3 – Next, draw the start of the top section
Now you can draw the next section in this third step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon Christmas tree!
As we mentioned in the previous step, the tree will get thinner as you go up, and that will be true for this part as well.
Otherwise, you will be doing exactly what you have done for the previous few steps. That means drawing more curved lines with pointy tips while also adding some of these details inside the outline.
There will then just be one final section of the tree to draw, so let’s take care of that in the next step!
Step 4 – Now, finish off the tree outline
The funnest part of putting up a Christmas tree is the decorations, but before we can do that we must first finish off the outline.
We will be finishing off the final section of the tree now and it will get even thinner for this final section.
The curved, pointy lines you have been drawing for the branches will move inward until they culminate in a thin tip at the top. You can finish off this step by drawing the first of the decorations.
This will be a star at the very top, which is a common decoration for Christmas trees. Then, you will be ready to finish off with some beautiful decorations on the tree in the next step!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your cartoon Christmas tree drawing
This step of your cartoon Christmas tree drawing will see you finishing off with some great decorations!
In our reference image, we have shown you one way to decorate the tree, but there are many more ways you could do it too.
We will go over some of these ways in this step, but for now we will cover the decorations as they appear in our image.
We used plenty of circle shapes for some baubles on the tree, and we also added some pretty stars. Now you can add some great decorations of your own!
These could include elements such as tinsel snaking around the tree, or you could add different kinds of decorations.
If you have decorations you like to use on your real Christmas tree, then you could design this tree to look like your own real one! How will you finish off this pretty tree?
Step 6 – Finish off your cartoon Christmas tree drawing with color
In the final step of this guide, we will add some color to your awesome cartoon Christmas tree!
We used a beautiful mild green for the leaves and kept the colors for the various decorations nice and varied as well.
You could also use similar colors, but you should also feel free to use any other colors you like! Christmas tree decorations can come in any colors you can imagine, so you could use any and all of your favorite colors.
You could also try out some fun art tools and mediums or even incorporate some crafts, and we can’t wait to see how you finish this one off!
Bonus: Try These Ideas To Make This Christmas Tree Drawing Even More Special
Christmas is a special time of the year for many people around the world. Different families will have their own unique Christmas traditions and customs.
These can range from the food that is eaten on the day, the decorations that are used and the way you decorate the Christmas tree. We love how this Christmas tree drawing looks, but there are ways to make it even more special.
You could do this by adding some details and additional elements that make you think of Christmas. Try to think of the details, decorations and things you will have on your real Christmas tree at Christmas, and then you can add them here.
It could be special lights, baubles and other decorations you would hang from the tree. Maybe there’s a special kind of tinsel, or you might have a handmade tree topper that you use every year.
Another way you can showcase these decorations is by using various arts and craft supplies. Beads could make excellent baubles on the tree, and you could use actual strips of tinsel and stick it to the tree.
You don’t necessarily have to stick to elements you would have on a real tree, however. This could also be a great chance for you to create your own magical ideal Christmas tree.
Because it’s a picture, it doesn’t have to obey the laws of physics and you don’t have to worry about how expensive all the decorations would be in real life!
It could also be fun to add a background that represents the place you would like to celebrate Christmas if you could do so anywhere in the world.
