Step 1

how to draw cartoon stars step 1
For this cartoon stars drawing, we will be drawing three stars arranged near to one another.

The stars will be shaped pretty much identically, but we will take this first star a bit more slowly so that you can see how to easily draw the outline.

Each star will have 5 points, and we will focus on the top three in this step. Each tip will be quite pointy, but they will also be rather rounded and curved.

Start by drawing the tip on the left, and then curved that up into the top one. You can draw the start of the arm on the right, but we will finish that in the next step.

Step 2 – Now, draw the rest of the first star

You began the first star previously, and in this second step of our guide on how to draw cartoon stars we will draw the rest of the outline.

First finish off the arm on the right that you barely began in the previous step.

This will then turn into the two bottom points of the star. These bottom points will look very similar to the top ones in that they will be thick and curved.

Finally, they will connect to the very first tip on the left, and then your first star outline is complete!

Before we add some fun details to this star, we will first focus on adding some star friends for this one in the next few steps!

Step 3 – Next, add the second star

This third step of the guide will be focused on adding a second star to accompany the first one.

This one will go underneath the first one to the right, and it will be essentially the same shape as that first one.

You will notice that it is at a slightly different angle, but you could still move through the first two steps again to draw this second one.

That’s all there it to it for now, and then we can move on to the final star outline in the next step of the guide!

Step 4 – Now, draw the final star outline

Now you’re ready to add the final star outline to your cartoon stars drawing before we add some fun facial details!

This star will go on the lower left-hand side of the drawing, and it will be essentially a mirror image of the star on the lower right.

This is another star where you could repeat the first two steps of the guide while adjusting it for the angle the star is at.

Once this final outline is drawn, we can add some fun final details in the fifth step.

Step 5 – Add the final details to your drawing

These aren’t just any stars we are creating in this guide on how to draw cartoon stars, as we will be adding some fun facial details in this fifth step.

Each star will have a face, and each facial expression will be slightly different.

The one on top will have perfectly round black eyes with small white circles inside. The mouth will be a simple curved line that has two rounded cheeks at each corner.

Then, the star on the lower right will have a similar face with some slightly smaller eyes.

Finally, the remaining star will have two curved lines for its closed eyes, and there will be a tongue poking out from the mouth.

When you have drawn these final details, you could also add some of your own! Maybe you could create some more star variations or create a fun background for a few ideas.

Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color

You have reached the final step of the guide, and now it’s time to have some fun with colors!

In our example image, we showed you one of the ways that you could go about coloring this adorable drawing.

We used some bright yellows for most of the stars, and then we used darker shades for the lower portions.

These darker sections help to provide some shading for the stars and makes them look even better!

You could go for similar colors for your own drawing, but don’t be afraid to change up the colors you use in order to create a unique look for your composition. What colors and art tools will you choose?

Bonus: Try Out These Fun Coloring Techniques To Make This Drawing Even Better

This drawing of cartoon stars is fairly simple, and that may make you think that you’re limited in how you can color it in. However, there are many ways that you can make the colors even more incredible.

We covered a few of these ways, but we wanted to go into a bit more detail. In the image, you will see that we did a subtle shading effect where we made the yellows near the base of each star a bit darker.

You can make this detail even more prominent by utilizing different kinds of shades of the colors you use. It could also be used on areas of the stars apart from the base.

When we think of cartoon stars, we tend to think of yellow, as this is the color most typically associated with stars. However, you don’t need to stick to just yellows, as there are many other colors that could be used.

Seeing as there are three stars, you could go for a separate color scheme for each one. If you wanted to go for an America-themed image, then you could make one red, one white and the last one blue.

If you were to choose alternate color schemes, you could still make the shading in the same way that we did for the yellow stars in the guide.

Then, you can emphasize the colors with some crafts, and we will go over a few specific ways you can do that in a section with some more ideas coming up.
