How to Draw A Cartoon Camel – Let’s get Started!

Step 1how to draw a cartoon camel step 1

The face of a camel is truly quite unusual, and that can make it a bit harder to draw!

It will be the focus of this first step of the guide, and we will show you that drawing it does not have to be that hard.

First, draw an oval shape for the eye, and then add a smaller one inside of that. Add a black, oval pupil, and then you can have the eyelid dropping down over the eye.

We will then use some curved and rounded lines for the jaw, nose and mouth.

Then, you can use some more curved yet pointy lines for the hair on top of the head, and then you can finish off with an ear poking off.

Step 2 – Next, draw the neckhow to draw a cartoon camel step 2

Camels have some long, curved necks, and we will add that feature in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon camel!

To draw the neck, we will use some curved lines with pointy portions poking out. These pointy bits will be to make the neck look furrier.

The neck is supposed to be fairly long, and the reference image will show you how you can position it! Finish off this step by drawing a curved line for the top of the leg, and then we shall move on.

Step 3 – Now, draw some legs for this cartoon camelhow to draw a cartoon camel step 3

Now we will add some front legs to this cartoon camel drawing for this step of the guide.

These legs will have furry upper portions that will be drawn with more rounded, pointy lines to make them look furry.

Then, the bottom halves will be smoother with round shapes at the base for the thick nails. That’s all for now, so let’s head to step 4!

Step 4 – Next, draw the hump of the camelhow to draw a cartoon camel step 4

It wouldn’t be much of a camel without a hump, and we will add one to your drawing now!

This hump will have a similarly pointy outline to some of the other aspects to make it look furry as well. It will be thin at the top and get gradually thicker as it goes down.

Finally, we will use a thick, curved line for the belly of the camel before moving on.

Step 5 – Now, draw the start of the back legshow to draw a cartoon camel step 5

For this fifth step, we will draw the beginning of the back legs. These will look similar to the front legs, but there will be differences.

They will also have furry top halves with smoother bottom halves, but they will be sharply bent, unlike the straight front legs.

For now, we won’t draw the feet at the ends of these back legs, but rest assured that we will add those soon!

Step 6 – Add some feet to the back legshow to draw a cartoon camel step 6

We started the legs in the previous step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon camel, and in this one we will finish off with the feet.

These will look practically identical to the feet on the front legs, and they will have a similarly curved outline with rounded nails at the ends.

With these feet drawn, we can move on to some final details in the next step!

Step 7 – Next, finish off the final elements of this cartoon camelhow to draw a cartoon camel step 7

All this cartoon camel needs now is a tail, so we will add that in this step. The tail is thin and curvy, and it ends in a furry tuft, as shown in the reference image.

Once you have drawn this tail you can then finish off with some final details of your own!

Camels are often found in desert environments, so it could be fun to draw a themed background for this camel featuring a scorching desert.

Will you create a background for this image? If so, what kind of setting will you choose?

Step 8 – Now finish it off with some colorhow to draw a cartoon camel step 8

We kept the colors a bit more realistic in our version of this cartoon camel drawing.

They are still beautiful, and really makes the image pop! We used a few shades of rich browns for the entirety of the camel’s fur, and it really looks amazing.

You could use colors that are similar to these, but you should also feel free to use any other colors you prefer!

When coloring, there is also the matter of choosing which art tools and mediums you will use.

Will you use bright colored pens and paints or some softer watercolors and colored pencils? Anything you use will look great, so have fun experimenting!

Here’s how you can make your cartoon camel drawing even better…

Saddle up for some fun as we make this cartoon camel sketch look even better!

When people use camels for transport, they will often drape something over the back of the camel to make it more comfortable. You could add something like this to your drawing of a cartoon camel.

This could be as simple as a blanket draped over the camel’s back, or you could draw some cargo that it is carrying. What else could you add to the back of this camel?

You could take our previous tip even further by adding a person riding the cartoon camel! This could be done whether you added anything to the back or not.

For an extra fun touch, you could draw this character to look like you for a personal touch.

If you struggle drawing people, you could use a cartoony style similar to the one used for the cartoon camel itself.

The person doesn’t have to look like a real person though, and you could even depict a silhouette.

When camels travel, they will often be in formations. Now that you know how to create this cartoon camel drawing, you could add as many camels as you like to this formation!

They could be standing in a line or maybe trekking through the desert. Each one could have small touches to make them unique, and there could be some people walking beside them or riding on them.

In the previous tip, we mentioned a desert setting for your cartoon camel sketch. This is something you could go for, but there are many other background settings you could use.

Even if you stick to a desert, you could also add some details such as trees, grass and maybe an oasis.

While a desert would be a classic setting for a camel, it’s far from the only one you could go for.

Perhaps the cartoon camel could be in a circus or at a zoo, for a few more ideas. Where else could it be?
