How to Draw A Llama – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
We will be starting with the snout for this first step of our guide on how to draw a llama.
To represent the small, squat face of a llama, we shall use a rounded line that looks like a big letter C.
As you’ll see in the next few steps, we will build on to this foundation very shortly to make the rest of the head.
Step 2 – Next, start drawing the fluffy head
As we mentioned earlier, llamas are known for their fluffy coats, so we will start to draw that aspect for your llama drawing in this step.
Using lots of small curves, carefully draw the head outline as it appears in our reference image. The little curves will give the appearance of fluffiness that you need for the coat.
Be sure to also go ahead and add some pointy ears to the head as well!
Step 3 – Extend the body of your llama
You have the hang of drawing the fluffy fur now, so using this technique we will add to the body of your llama drawing.
First, you should focus on giving your llama a nice long neck extending down from the head.
The neck will then curve into the back and the chest, and there will be a small rounded protrusion where the leg will extend from in the next steps.
Step 4 – Now, finish drawing the body
In this step of our guide on how to draw a llama, you can continue as you have been for the last few steps to finish off the outline for the body.
Simply draw two more rounded protrusions for the other legs, give your llama a little tail and then connect the back and belly.
These will all be done with the bumpy line you have been using in order to make your llama nice and fluffy!
Step 5 – Draw a cute face for your llama
Your llama drawing is really coming along nicely, and now it just needs a cute face before we move on!
To begin, we will give the llama a big round eye with a circle inside it for the pupil of the eye.
Then, you can use some curved lines for the nose and smiling face of your llama. These are elements that you could also tweak if you would like some variation to your picture.
Now, there are just a few more details to add before you can start to color in your awesome picture.
Step 6 – Draw some final elements and details in this step
We will be finishing off the drawing part of your picture in this step of this guide on how to draw a llama.
Before you start adding some of your own touches though, first make sure to draw the hooves of your llama.
These are very small and stubby to give the llama an extra cute look! This also makes them very easy to draw, and you can accomplish it with some simple curved lines.
With that, your llama drawing is ready for the final step! Before you move on, however, this is a good opportunity to add some of your own elements and details to personalize your drawing.
These could include something like a poncho on the llama or a beautiful mountainous background.
Or you could make it more quirky by drawing another llama alongside this one with a dancefloor background!

Now that your drawing is finished, you can move on to the fun part of coloring in your llama drawing!

We used a more muted tan color for our example, but while this is one approach you can take you should feel free to use any colors that you love!
The llama doesn’t need to look realistic to look good, so you could even make a technicolor llama if you wanted!
The colors you choose are just a part of it though, and you can also express yourself with the art mediums that you use for your drawing.
For instance, acrylic paints or colored pens can give your image a brighter, more intense look while watercolors or colored pencils can give a more classic, muted look.
