All around the world, audiences are thrilled by these loud and powerful machines as they go over everything in their path and perform amazing feats.
As much as you may love monster trucks, it can be quite complex and frustrating to figure out how to draw a monster truck.
This very guide that you’re about to go through will show you how it can be done!
We hope that you have a great time with this step-by-step guide on how to draw a monster truck in just 7 steps.
How to Draw A Monster Truck – Let’s get Started!
Step 1
In this first step of our guide on how to draw a monster truck, we will be focusing on the grill and headlights of the monster truck.
First, you can draw some thin, slightly jagged rectangles for the grills of the monster truck. Then, you can draw the hood over the grill as shown in the reference image.
Finally, you can draw the headlights using a combination of circular shapes and straight lines.
Step 2 – Draw the top of the monster truck
Now that you have the front of your monster truck drawing done, you can start to draw the top of it in this next step.
You can then draw the windshield along with the front and back windows. Finally, you can draw the exhaust pipes sticking up at the back of the truck as shown in our reference image.
Step 3 – Now, draw more of the front of the truck and some flame decals
We will be adding some more of the grill of the truck and the sides in this step of our guide on how to draw a monster truck.
To do this, you can follow the reference image closely to create the front of the truck using some curved lines.
Then, you can start to draw the side of the truck which will include the top of the wheel arch as well as some flame decals. Then, you’re ready for step 4!
Step 4 – Draw the first wheel of your monster truck
It wouldn’t be much of a monster truck drawing without some big wheels, so we will add the first one in this step!
These wheels can look a bit intricate with the tread patterns ingrained into them, so this is a step where you will want to carefully follow the reference image.
You could also draw this wheel with a pencil before drawing over it with a pen.
Step 5 – Now, you can draw another big wheel
You have one wheel of your truck drawn, so we will be adding another one in this step of our guide on how to draw a monster truck!
This wheel will be a lot bigger than the previous one was, as it will be much closer than the other one. This also means that the details will be even more pronounced than the previous one.
Step 6 – Draw the final wheel and some last details in this step
Before you add some color to your monster truck drawing there are just a few more details and elements to add.
The first thing you will be adding will be the final wheel at the back of the truck. Finally, you can draw a shadow shape underneath the monster truck as shown in the reference image.
Before you move on to the final step, you could also add some extra details such as different decals or logos all over the truck.
Another addition you could do would be to draw a background to show where this monster truck is driving. What can you think of to add to your monster truck drawing to finish it off?
Step 7 – Finish off your monster truck drawing with some color
This final step of our guide on how to draw a monster truck will be a fun one! In this part, you will be able to use your favorite colors and art mediums to really bring this drawing to life!
For our reference image, we used some bright red and yellow for the truck with some dark greys for the wheels of the truck.
This is just one way that you could color in your drawing, however. Monster trucks are often really bright and colorful with all kinds of awesome decals and designs on them.
This gives you a lot of freedom for how you can color it in! If you drew any background details or extra elements then you can color these parts in as well.
Choosing your colors is just part of the fun, as you can also experiment with some great art mediums and tools.
You could use anything from acrylic paints and colored pens to watercolors and colored pencils.
Each medium that you choose will bring something to the image, so be sure to experiment and see what happens!
3 More tips to make your monster truck drawing easy!
Power through this monster truck sketch with these 3 tips on making it easier!
This drawing of a monster truck that we created is wonderfully detailed, giving it a realistic look.
Drawing vehicles is tough at the best of times, but this is made even more so when it is done in such a detailed style.
If you are having a hard time with this monster truck, you could go for a less detailed style. For example, one of the trickiest parts of drawing this monster truck would be the wheels.
These have so many lines and ridges, and they can get overwhelming to draw. In order to make this easier, you could instead have the wheels be flat and rounded.
You should certainly simplify any elements that are giving you a tough time!
If you wish to keep the details intact but are having a frustrating time, then you could plan out the monster truck drawing with a pencil before using your pen.
To do this, you would need a light pencil and to refer to the pictures in our guide closely. Then, try to break down the image into basic shapes.
This could be circles, ovals, rectangles or anything else that would make it easier. Then, start adding layers of details until you have a more realized image.
Finish off with your pen and then erase your pencil lines to complete it!
You can also use real monster trucks to help you out as you draw. You probably don’t have a real monster truck lying around, so you may need to look online for some pictures!
If possible, finding one that is posed similarly to our example will help you with your monster truck sketch. Even if they’re not exactly the same, it could still help with the proportions and other details.
Using these photos along with our example would be a great way to make creating this detailed design so much easier to do!
Plus, you could use photos to help you create alternate versions of the monster truck.
