The oceans of our planet are home to some of the weirdest and wonderful creatures in the animal kingdom.
Each creature seems to be stranger than the last, but some really take strange appearances to the next level!
One example of this is the lobster, as this animal has truly got quite a unique appearance. This can make learning how to draw a cartoon lobster a bit of a challenge to say the least!
It can be made a lot easier when you have the right steps to follow, however, and this is what we are here to help with in this guide you have before you.
This step-by-step guide on how to draw a cartoon lobster in just 6 fun and easy steps will show you how you can recreate this famous crustacean!
How to Draw A Cartoon Lobster – Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
For this first step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon lobster, we will begin with the head of this curious creature! The head itself is fairly small and rounded, and it has a unique shape to it.
From the front of the face, there will be some long and wavy whisker-like antennae extending out and over the head.
Then, we will draw some eyes using some small oval shapes that have even smaller black ovals within.
Finish off with a smiling mouth and some eyebrows, and then we can proceed to step 2 of the guide!
Step 2 – Now, draw the first claw of this cartoon lobster
Perhaps the most recognizable aspect of this animal are its big claws at the ends of its arms. We will add the first of these pincers to your cartoon lobster drawing in this next step!
First, create a short arm extending from beneath the face using some curved lines. This will then attach to the claw.
This intimidating pincer will have two sections that curve inwards with some pointy tips. The one on the lower side will be larger, whereas the upper one will be quite a bit smaller.
Add some bumpy details onto the lower half, and then we can move on to step 3!
Step 3 – Next, draw the first segment of the body
Like many crustaceans, the lobster has an outer shell separated into various armored segments. We will draw the first of these segments in this step.
The first segment will be drawn using some curved lines to create the rounded shape you see in the reference image. It will angle downwards slightly, as the body in general will be slightly curled in.
Then, add the first two legs using some long and pointy shapes poking down from this first segment.
Then, we will be ready to take on step 4 of this guide, so let’s go!
Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of the body segments
Before we move on to the final details of this guide on how to draw a cartoon lobster, we must first finish off the body outline!
To do this, we will be adding some more segments to the body. As mentioned previously, these segments will curl inward a bit as you go.
They will also get smaller as you go further along the body, and they will end in the distinctive fanned lobster tail.
Finally, we will also add some more legs poking down from the body, and these will look very similar to the others. Then it’s time for some final details!
Step 5 – Add the second claw to the picture
This cartoon lobster drawing is missing something, and we will add that missing element in this fifth step! Any lobster needs two claws, and we will add the second one now.
This one will extend from the top of the head, and it will appear as a mirrored version of the previous claw that you drew.
Once this one is there, you are ready for the final step! But you don’t have to move on just yet, as there are even more details that you could add.
One way to really finish this off would be to draw a background. You could create a stunning ocean background that has some more cartoon lobsters or other sea creatures hanging out with this one!
This is one idea for a background, but there are other creative ones you could choose as well. How will you finish off this design with your creativity?
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
We will be finishing off this guide on how to draw a cartoon lobster in style as we add some beautiful colors!
Lobsters can actually come in many different colors in nature, but they are most commonly known to be red. This is especially true for cartoon portrayals, and it’s what we went for in this example image.
We used various shades of reds and oranges for the coloring of this lobster, and it makes for a really striking image.
When coloring your own one, you could go for a similar approach if you like how it looks, but don’t be afraid to choose some unique colors of your own!
We would also recommend brighter art tools and mediums such as colored pens, markers and acrylic paints, but anything you choose will bring something unique to the image!
