Recycled CD Peacock Craft for Kids

I get so excited every month when the Kids Craft Stars challenge comes along. Last month we made crafts based on children’s books and this month we are using a CD to create a children’s craft. If you have any scratched CD’s laying around, this is the perfect opportunity to get crafting with them instead of throwing them away! I’m sharing today how we turned a CD into a bright and colorful Peacock Craft for Kids. It is a fantastic craft to make after visiting the zoo or when learning about birds.

HOW TO MAKE A RECYCLED CD PEACOCK CRAFT FOR KIDS

Supplies you will need:

*We received our wooden clothespins from CraftProjectIdeas.com to use in our crafts and share them on our blog. You can purchase them at your local Walmart in the crafts section.

Directions:

1. Start by painting green and blue fingerprints on the top half of your CD and set it aside to dry.

2. Trace your child’s hand 3 times on your green cardstock paper and cut them out. Also, cut a peacock body out of your blue cardstock paper. I let my preschooler do all of the cutting for her peacock so she could get in some great scissor practice.

3. Once your paint has finished drying, glue your green feathers onto the back of the CD behind your painted fingerprints.

4. Then glue your handprints onto your green feathers.

5. Glue your 3 cocktail toothpicks onto the back of your peacock head and then place a piece of tape over them to hold them in place.

6. Glue your peacock body onto the front of your CD, then glue on your googly eyes and an orange beak.
7. Finish your peacock by attaching the two clothespins to the bottom of your CD. You may need to play around with their position a little to help the peacock stand up best.

Here is my preschooler’s and my peacock. I love how my daughter got creative by adding in pink feathers. She is so proud of her new feathery friend. Who knew you could recycle a CD into such a pretty craft!

Have you made a kids craft with a CD lately? If you make our Peacock CD Craft or any other crafts with a CD I would love to have you share it on our Facebook page.
