Elf Stick Puppet Craft

We are having a bit of a puppet obsession lately. They are so much fun, we just can’t help ourselves! We watched Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman on TV last night and my daughter brought up the fact that we had Santa, Reindeer and a Snowman, but we hadn’t made an elf yet. We remedied that and added an Elf Stick Puppet to complete our collection.

No tutorial pictures, sorry! We had snow today so lighting was terrible!

1. Glue cupcake liner on a carboard and paint it

Start by gluing your white mini cupcake liner onto a piece of cardboard. We used a cereal box. Paint your cupcake liner with flesh color paint. Also, cut a small piece of white cardstock paper with your flesh colored paint. [If you don’t have flesh color paint you could also just color the pieces with a peach crayon.]

2. Cut out hat, nose and hair pieces

Cut out a triangle shape out of your green cardstock paper for your puppet. The base of our triangle was 3-inches and we made it more of a tall rectangle. Also cut out a small circle nose from your red cardstock paper and some hair with your yellow cardstock paper.

3. Cut out cupcake liner from cardboard, cut out 2 elf ears

Cut out your mini cupcake liner from your cardboard and also cut out 2 elf ears from flesh painted white cardstock paper.

4. Glue all pieces together to make elf

Glue your cupcake liner onto the green triangle. Glue the ears onto the back of the elf face. Glue the yellow hair onto the top of the cupcake liner and then glue on the 2 googly eyes and the small red nose. Draw a mouth on your elf with the black marker.

5. Glue cotton ball pieces onto puppet

Break apart a cotton ball to make the little brim of the hat and a small piece for the top of the hat. Glue the pieces onto your puppet.

6. Attach jumbo craft stick to the back of elf

Finish your puppet by putting a generous amount of tacky glue half way down the jumbo craft stick and attaching it to the back of your elf.
