I’ve had koalas on the brain ever since we had family movie night last weekend and watched the new movie SING. What better way to get it out of my system than with a fun craft, right?!
And since we are such a huge fan of using newspaper for crafting, we used it to create this darling newspaper koala craft.
Using newspaper as a recycled element in this craft makes it a perfect craft to celebrate Earth Day next month!
Read our simple step-by-step instructions below for how to make this cute newspaper koala. You will also want to make sure you watch our easy video tutorial inside this post before you get started.

- colored cardstock paper
- newspaper
- black cardstock
- wiggly eyes
- oil pastels
- pencil
- glue
Instructions:
1. Download and print out the koala craft template to make this step easier.
Begin by cutting out the pieces you’ll need for your newspaper koala. From your newspaper you’ll need a larger circle for the koala face, two circles for the ears and a half circle for the body. You’ll also need to cut out a koala nose out of your black cardstock.
2. Color the space on your koala pieces
To give your koala some extra texture, use a gray oil pastel (or a gray crayon) to color in some of the space on your newspaper koala pieces. You can use your fingers or a cotton ball to smear the gray out a bit after coloring your koala.
3. Glue all koala pieces
Glue your koala body onto the bottom of your colored cardstock. Then glue on your koala face and ears.
4. Add nose and eyes, draw a smile
Finally, glue your black cardstock nose and wiggly eyes onto your newspaper koala craft.
