Washi tape is one of my weaknesses. I think it must be the bright, cute patterns, but sometimes I just can’t hold back when I see it. My sister-in-law saw some on sale recently online and I couldn’t pass up the chance to get some new patterns and colors in my collection. When it arrived in the mail last week my daughter and I quickly got to work thinking of a craft we could make with it. We put together this fun Paper Bag Owl Puppet that is perfect for a fun Valentine’s Craft with it’s pink hues and belly heart.

Supplies needed:
- paper bag
- heart doily
- washi tape
- pink, black, white and yellow cardstock paper
- 2-inch circle punch
- 1.5-inch scallop circle punch
- scissors
- glue
Tutorial:
1. Cut out needed shapes
Start by cutting out the pieces you’ll need for your owl from your cardstock paper. Cut out 2 white circles from your 2-inch circle punch, 2 black scallop circles from your circle scallop punch, a triangle beak from your yellow cardstock paper, 2 triangle ears from your pink cardstock paper, and lastly, trace and cut out your child’s hands for the owl wings.
2. Cut few inches off the paper bag
Next cut about 2 to 2 1/2 inches off the bottom of your paper bag. I always do this because the shortened length works better with my daughter’s arms. This step is completely optional though.
3. Decorate doily with tape
Decorate your heart doily with washi tape and then glue the doily upside down onto your paper bag.
4. Glue all face details to the bag
To finish your owl, glue the ears, beak, eyes and wings onto your paper bag.
Now your child can walk around with their puppet on their arm and say “Whoo-Whoo! Whoo will be my Valentine?”
