Welcome to our “Fish in the Sea” mural craft! In this fun and creative activity, we’ll bring the vibrant, underwater world to life by creating colourful fish, sea plants, and other ocean creatures. Using simple materials, each of you will get to design your own unique sea creature that will swim together in our big, beautiful mural. Let’s dive deep into our imaginations and create an ocean full of color!
Supplies needed:
- poster board
- bubble wrap
- blue paint
- white card stock paper
- permanent black marker
- colorfull markers
- scissors
- glue
- green tissue paper
Tutorial:
1. Prepare your poster board
To make our mural we started by cutting a piece of poster board in half. We wanted to add lots of fish so I chose to use a bigger piece of paper instead of a regular 8.5 x 11.
2. Brush paint on bubble wrap
I’ve had bubble wrap stored away for months now for this project. We brushed some blue paint onto the bubble wrap.
3. Press bubble wrap onto paper
Then pressed it onto our paper and carefully lifted it off.
4. Remove it and you have your water background
After we done filling the entire paper, we had created our water background. This was a lot less time consuming than painting the entire paper blue, and a lot more fun!
5. Draw and color your fish
Then I had my son tell me which fish are his favorite I drew all of them with pencil onto white card stock paper, then outlined them with a permanent black marker. I am not an artist by any means, so I just tried my best to copy the fish. My son used markers to color the fish like in the story (I did help with some since this was such a time consuming project) and then we cut all the fish out. There were places of the black lines where my son cut off, so I went back over the edges with a black marker after he was done cutting.
6. Glue tissue paper and all your fish
We then glued down some strips of green tissue paper as seaweed onto our water background and glued down all our fish to finish the mural.
Meet some of our fish:
I 100% recomend making this fun craft. This project took us the entire morning but my preschooler loved every minute of it (and so did I).
Happy Crafting!!
