Supplies needed for making a turkey windsock:

Instructions for making this simple Thanksgiving Craft

Step 1: Cut six pieces of brown crepe paper about 24 inches in length. Use a glue stick to add glue at the bottom of your light brown sheet of cardstock and place all six pieces of crepe paper along the bottom of your cardstock.

Turn your light brown cardstock over so the crepe paper is face down.

Step 2: Bend a piece of orange construction paper in half. Cut out a triangle shape with the folded edge of the orange construction paper at the bottom to create a turkey beak.

Step 3: Cut off the top section of your red balloon off. This step is optional but I feel like it helps the balloon and beak adhere better together so I recommend it.

Warning: Children can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken balloons. Adult supervision is required. If you are concerned about balloon safety, you can cut out a paper turkey snood from red construction paper as an alternative to using balloons.

Step 4: Glue the red balloon turkey snood in the center of your light brown cardstock. Then glue the beak in front of the balloon.

Step 5: Glue two extra large googly eyes on your turkey windsock. (If you want to avoid glue drying time, you can use glue dots for adhering the googly eyes instead of glue.)

Step 6: Bend your light brown cardstock into a circle, connecting the ends together. Place two staples at the top and bottom of the windsock to join the ends together.

Step 7: Use a paper cutter to cut a length of brown cardstock paper 1-inch by 11-inches. Then cut a length of red, orange and yellow construction paper 1-inch by 9-inches.

Step 8: Fold the red, orange and yellow strips of construction paper around the back of the turkey windsock and staple them in place.

Step 9: Place the brown strip of cardstock paper inside the top of the windsock and attach it with a staple. Then staple the opposite end of the brown strip to the opposite end of the windsock.

Hang your turkey windsock craft outside and watch it dance around in the fall wind. Or display the windsock indoors for a festive Thanksgiving decoration.
